Hello! I just purchased a 2019 Prius Prime Plug-in and there was no cable included. How and where do I get one? Thanks! Mike
There is a storage compartment for the charger cable under the rear trunk deck just ahead of the hatch lock. Might it be in there?
It is more than just a cable. It is the complete EVSE...electric vehicle supply equipment. This is often erroneously called the charger or charge cable. All that said, you can get any one. There are some Chinese EVSEs that cost in the $200 range, will plug into either 120 volts or 240 volts. Here's an example: Dostar Duosida 16A 3.84kW Portable Charging Station - EVSE D25-16A – BSA Electronics
From a dealer? I'd insist they provide a cable, as that was a standard piece of equipment for all Primes. Or demand $500 back. If bought "as-is" - you're out of luck and need to purchase one. OEM preferred, but many have had success with the other cheaper options as per above.
This! ^ The EVSE comes with the car. If it's not down in the storage compartment at the rear of the car, go to the dealer and demand either the EVSE or the money to replace it. It ain't cheap. Someone on this forum recently offered to sell the EVSE from the Prime he had traded in. Seems he kept the EVSE for himself. I wonder if you got his car.
That'll work. But the person who sold the car needs to pay for it. The EVSE is something that comes with the car -- kind of like seats, wheels, etc. If something's missing, it needs to be declared and reflected in the price.
I don't doubt I got his car. Who would do such a thing? I thought it was part of the car, to go with it!
Thanks, MTN. I am in talks with them. I thought it was a standard piece of the car (DUH! A PLUG-IN hybrid!) They said no. It was a removable piece and the previous owner removed it.
I would look for an EVSE with both 240 and 120 volt plugs. www.amazon.com/dp/B07Y7HPKB6/ As an example.
Yeah, removable item on a used car. It is one of the Buyer beware thing. I bought a used car one time only to find the spare tire and jack was missing after the purchase. After complaining to the dealer, the dealer gave me one that came off from a different car, but The OEM EVSE for PP cost ~$850 new IIRC, and a dealer can't find it from most other cars. eBay is the best place to get one cheap. I got my extra one from eBay for about $200.
Playing Devil's Advocate: I'm not a lawyer but I think if push came to shove the dealer would prevail. The car will still function perfectly albeit only as a conventional hybrid. It's not like the tires or 12v battery were missing. It was the previous owner who withheld the charging cable not the dealer and the caveat emptor principle would apply. It would be up to the buyer to inspect the vehicle before purchasing. I think the dealer could also argue the agreed upon price was based on the lack of charging cable. Just my two cents. J
