I purchased my Toyota Aqua 2015 last December in Ireland. I find it great so far but I'm not too keen on the audio options. The CD works fine but I don't want to be burning Audio CD's constantly. I also find the AUX port inferior in terms of volume. The USB I find is the best but I would like to play .WAV files which my Sony Walkman MP3/USB doesn't support. I tried to copy these files onto a standard 8GB USB flash drive but the car didn't detect it at all. Is this something that can be worked around or is it simply not possible? Someone suggested it might be what the drive is formatted in.
Not sure how they do it in Ireland but in the USA the owners' manual actually has a pretty comprehensive list of file and storage formats supported by the head unit.
In the present, most flash drives are formatted as NTSF. I'm in the US and here Toyota radios require flash drives to be formatted as FAT32, which has a maximum size of 32 mb. Don't know if this required for the newest models. Try reformatting the USB stick as FAT 32 and reloading your music. Hope this works for you.
Fixed your message. If you need many files, put ~500 in each folder so it doesn't take ages for the Head Unit to index what's on the USB stick. Also, it's not hard to find a free program on the interwebs that converts (or encodes) MP3 from WAV. If it's quality your going for use a bitrate of 320K (highest you can go) Personally I use LAME insane quality in DVDvideosoft to convert everything to MP3 320K.
I used a 128GB USB Drive with MP3 files, Format must be FAT32 - you can download a program to format storage over 32GB at FAT32 - but I'll say with this many files the head unit is confused and can't display all my folders - but I still enjoy having all the music on-hand
