Is there something I am missing? I just got a 2021 PP limited and only see the option in the app to turn on climate controls. For some reason I thought it had an onboard hotspot, remote unlock, car locator and all that sort of thing. Is there some additional functionality or different app required?
Reading further Well they makes no sense .. the regular prius getting more connectivity then the top tier prime. If the thing already has a cellular connection, why not use it for more then turning on the climate controls
LE model has WiFi connect (hotspot), but only the first 2Gb is free, after which it will cost to have the service. XLE and Ltd do not come with WiFi connect.
It is to do with the head unit that comes with LE model which is the same HU as used in many other Toyota line-ups. That's why more software options are developed such as Android Auto being available only on LE model but not on XLE or Ltd. The 11.6" display on XLE and Ltd is really poor implementation by Toyota for the show of "Tesla-like" look only without added features or functionalities. I traded my 2017 PP Premium to 2020 LE to get rid of the dysfunctional 11.6" screen (and super uncomfortable Softex seats). I no longer have the PP, but if I buy again I would not touch any trims with the large screen.
I'm new here. I just bought a 2021 XLE. I'm shocked and dismayed at how crappy the head unit is in this car. I know, I know, the reviews all knock it, and if it was so important I should have looked at it closer myself, but, really Toyota, Wth!?!? SM-N981U ?
I don't mind the head unit so far .. though keeping an old iphone tethered to it was annoying. It does seem incompletelly thought through .. like how there's a wireless phone charger, but Apple Carplay requires USB tether, but the onboard connectivity tethers over bluetooth, with none of these actually using the onboard cellular systems. All this when they could have just as easily run _everything_ through either the bluetooth pairing _or_ the onboard cell
Yes, though Wireless CarPlay has been available for a while, and is starting to roll out to some new vehicles from other automakers. Charging via USB is much more efficient though, and is usually faster.
Wireless carplay makes a lot more sense with the very prominent wireless charger though .. just drop it and go. From my experience, apple CarPlay isn't very high bandwidth
I completely agree, just saying it’s not that common yet. One would think the Prius, as a supposed tech showcase, would get it first but Toyota is not the best (understatement) on the in-car technology front in general.
My 2020 Chevy Sonic has a much better head unit than my 2021 PP XLE. So much for "tech showcase". It has Android Auto AND Carplay. 2 USB ports. Voice commands that don't require 4 steps to call a contact. Better graphics. Better touch response. $10k cheaper. Ok, I'm done whining about the XLE/Limited head unit (for now). SM-N981U ?
I believe it is a glitch between the Tapatalk app and this site. When I post via TT, it puts my phone type as a signature. If I go back and edit the post, the line changes to something like "Posted via SN-5425 via TT", which I can delete or change. I've dug through the settings in both Tapatalk and PriusChat.com, and cannot find any way to turn it off. Tapatalk doesn't do this on other sites that I post on. I see it happening to a few other posters so it is not just me. SM-N981U ?
I just discovered another clue. In my above comment. Something changed the app name to ?. Everywhere it changed the app name to ?, I edited it to "TT". It's odd that it didn't change it everywhere. Must be the site trying to eliminate giving the app free advertising. Now I just need to figure out how to eliminate that auto-signature. Probably have to upgrade or become a registered user of the app which cannot be named. SM-N981U ?
