To me, this recent 20 min (yes 20 minutes) video reflects where the world has gone with trying to get good deals on our PP - we now have a youtube video on the subject :) I did not watch the whole video. Maybe someone else can and give their opinion.

    Could have done better. Max deal I would shoot for is 5500 Toyota + 1000 Student + 2750 dealer (was 3200 last month) + 4500 Federal + 1500 State (MA) = 15,250

LOL it's very tempting to just factor in the deductions without factoring in the additional costs because then you look like an absolute master dealer. Like, sure, if you don't count the TTL, shipping costs, financing (if applicable), dealer costs AND you include any tax incentives, then yeah, I got my LE for $16829.

They're sharing good tips, but the degree of savings is way exaggerated.

He's saying there are unique discounts from various states that you cannot replicate if you are a resident of another state. An example would be the income tax credit in Oklahoma that can be carried over 5 years. Can't get that unless you live in my state. One of the electric companies pays to install a charge, but unfortunately mine does not.

correct. any discount off of msrp is important to know. as are dealer fees and etc., but ttl is different and inescapable.

Okay, I read you. And true enough! I do think it's fair to note that to take advantage of the out of region rebates incurs additional costs, though. Not a true discount of $5500 if you're going to have to pay $1500 or so to ship or paying for airfare to drive it home. But TTL is a wash whether you buy locally or not, so I get where you're coming from.

absolutely. if you have to fly in, ship, whatever, figure that into the cost.

Just bought a 2021 black/black XLE from Holman NJ. Exceptional service from Lisa Leonetti. Zero pressure and very smooth transaction. Took less than an hour to finish the transaction and drove away a new car home. Highly recommended if you are at the NE area. I've shopped around in the past few days, many dealership no longer offer any discounts or very little. YMMV

    MSRP: 31254
    Dealer discount: $1100
    Toyota rebate: $5000
    Doc fee: $499
    Registration/title/Tax: $1408
    OTD: $27061

I guess I'm not surprised, but I paid $400 more for the limited just a few days ago at Dartmouth Toyota.

Can you share the breakdown of the $27.4k? Was this OTD or after discounts and before TTL+?

The check to the dealer Toyota of Darthmouth, MA was $27,992. Included $500 doc fee. I pay taxes and registration in my home state when I apply for tags. $35,000 MSRP, $5,500 Toyota rebate and $2000 dealer discount.

You didn't pay $400 more, you prob paid around 2500-3000 more. Just guessing that your taxes and reg will run about 2k or so.

3.25% for taxes and $150 registration and title if I remember correctly. Around $1000

Oklahoma. At one time we had such low taxes that all the truckers registers their trucks and trailers in Oklahoma with paper “offices.” They put a stop to that a few years back and some states even back charged for taxes that were unpaid. I remembered Arkansas having some insane taxes that u pay yearly. Our tax is once and done, it’s $100 a year until 5 years then it slowly declines to around $40.

Is this why almost every truck I see on the highways around here have OK plates?? I've always wondered why so many Oklahoman truckers are driving through Maryland! OK and Maine too

Just picked up a Magnetic Grey Metallic 2021 Limited from Faith's Toyota in VT, and I live in NH so no sales tax (registration is based on value though). I probably could have done a bit better shopping around and if I were willing to travel further, but I appreciated they gave me a fair price right from the start.

MSRP: $35,120 (destination + floor mats at the price of door edge guards)
    Toyota Rebate: $5,000 (New England)
    Dealer discount: $ 1,903
    Dealer doc fee: $ 599
    Title fee: $25
    $28,341 OTD (cash)

Good experience overall, no complaints. Just the usual relatively soft pitch for an extended warranty from the money/paperwork person.

A lot of major companies are just located here. You have to have an office and a phone now to plate here or any state. Lots of rental companies were using Maine and California for trailer tags because they were the cheapest in the USA. Not sure if that’s still the case. Kansas had free registration for trailer dollies. It’s not just coincidence that a major company that uses dollies is located there.
