Actually, 36% of Americans identify themselves as Democrats, and 33% Republicans. And according to the latest Newsweek poll, 55% of Americans want the Dems to take back Congress. So, yeah, most Americans are sane.

Medicare is a joke too. Freedom of speech isn't a liberal idea. Matter of fact liberals want to silence speech they disagree with. The only people that work 40 hour work weeks are government workers.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Kramer @ Oct 26 2006, 10:36 PM) </div> Yes Social Security is poverty level, but it's more than we had before, you would rather have that money in Enron stock? That's why it's intendended as a starting point. Medicare a joke? The head of Medicare is paid $140,000 per year, the recently ousted head of my HMO got $125,000,000 per year and the coverage is s*#^. The freedoms granted to us in the US constitution are very much liberal ideas, especially the bill of rights, and the only one tying to suppress those is GWB. But sadly, less and less people still enjoy the 40 hour work week, that too is something that has grown tremendously since the age of the neocons.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Wildkow @ Oct 26 2006, 11:33 PM) </div> Well, that too!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Kramer @ Oct 26 2006, 11:36 PM) </div> Social Security was never intended to be everything for all. And who is going to be responsible for funding it - especially as the number of people retired is growing larger and larger and the number of people supporing them is not keeping up. And in fact, it serves to fund general funds for the fed govt - this system has to be fixed and fixed soon - we should at least have the option of putting a portion into the economy so we can increase the return on investment above the 1% or so it has been getting forever. AND, if you die one month into collecting why do you lose your entire investment??? For that matter why do we not get at least every $ out we put in???? Medicare is joke for lots of reasons - a means test is needed, less govt interference is needed, no-fault med malpractice is needed, etc Freedom of Speech carries responsibilities with it too. You are free to work however many hours you want to work - at least here in the USA you get to keep a larger % of what you earn for your time - maybe a reason people work more hours?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(tripp @ Oct 23 2006, 09:58 PM) </div> Actually, this country could use some real partisan devisiveness. We need to stop being so polite and get the democrats and the republicnas to duke it out for real instead of pretending to disagree. What's been going on in D.C. for the past twenty years isn't real, just a shadow of what made this country great. The democrats have to stop being afraid of disagreeing and grow a collective spine; give the American people a real ongoing debate. Maybe then the truth will come out and we can make decisions that will really make a difference.
