Either one will do it. It's just an estimate.

I'd adjust the other parameters too. Gas isn't $3.50.

Great question. Can't remember where I found it but I set it to 253, but that was just a search in this forum.

 

Ok, I will do the same, My average electricity costs? well since I pay $15.00/mo no matter how much electricity I consume. (because that's what my landlord charges me) I got a hold of the DTE summary (DTE is Detroit Edison) and it looks like my landlord is on a commercial rate so he pays 9 cents per kwh.

I think maybe something Guru @john1701a had posted... But I may be wrong.

 

For "Your average Wh per mile 300" I would use either:

• (18/30.6) * 300 ~= 177 Wh per mile
• 25kWh / 100 mi ~= 250 Wh per mile
• 233 Wh per mile, what I'm using

However, I switched to 'SOC %' and kWh because the rate of electrical consumption per mile is a strong function of the speed and driving style. In the case of our BMW i3-REx, ambient temperature. I'm seeing +100 miles on the estimated electrical range now that we're in mid-70s. So my rule of thumb:

• Prime - 100% SOC ~= 30 miles so 33% ~= 10 miles
• BMW - 100% SOC ~= 70-100 miles so 1% ~= 1 mile

I see your question from quite some time back and it looks like there was no one that really could answer it. I have a new Prime and am frustrated that I can't find any cumulative record on the car of the kwh's used. I had a plug-in Ford CMax and it regularly provided a cumulative record of energy used that could be reset when I reset the trip odometer. I see that many of the responses that you got focused on the amount of energy used to charge the car when you were charging at home, but I charge in multiple places and thus I would like the car to keep track. Did you find any solution to this?

 

The OP has not been seen over 2y 5w, I doubt you will get a response from him. The short answer to your question is that there is no easy way to "lookup" the kWh used on PP during EV mode. There is no display anywhere. The only way to get semi-accurate kWh used is to measure at the wall (or at a charge station). That still is not an accurate measure of what was used on actually driving the car for some electricity is lost during conversion and some are used for traction battery heater, cooler and/or climate preconditioning.

 

Agree. But it is accurate for knowing the actual cost of driving the car for the very reason that it includes all the losses involved in charging the battery. Going from the PiP, which shows actual EV mode percentage I was disappointed at first. Then I decided it was better for me to know the cost per mile than how many miles I drove in EV mode.

 

Thanks for these replies. With my Cmax I could figure out what my costs were per mile, which I liked to keep just for comparison. FYI, on the Cmax it took 8kwh to charge the 5.5kwh battery, I haven't figured that out yet on the Prime but what I see from searching around is that it's much more efficient at charging. I've had the car 1460 miles and have used about a 1/4 tank of gas...

 

Is this a typo? How come it takes more kWh than the battery can hold? The Prius Prime's 8.8kWh battery will take around 6.0-6.5kWh to fully charge from the EV depleted state. The actual usable battery charge is about 5.4-5.5kWh for EV mode.
