I just got a 2012 Plug-In and was thinking about replacing the LH side storage box (See example picture) with one from a regular Prius of a similar year

I don't actually have the OEM emergency tire repair kit and the one I have doesn't fit well obviously due to the shape of the box, so I figured why not replace that bin with a more spacious bin with greater versatility. My question is does anyone know if the replacement storage box should be compatible? Or has done a similar modification to their trunk?

i don't understand what you are trying to accomplish. how can a larger bin fit in the same size opening?

Would a left hand side bin from a base Prius (See this Pic) fit in the same spot for the Plug-In version?

I guess this one might just be less versatile, because of the way it's all dividered-up for holding the goo pump. The one from a regular liftback is just open space. The overall shape of the bin and the space where it goes sure look about the same, though I'm not sure you'll find out any easier way than trying it.

I have a 2012 my plugin. I do not think the regular 2012 trunk area is as big as the 2012 base. The trunk mats do not fit. My emergency tire kit is not in that space, but under the left side drivers seat with access from the back seat. Slide the driver's seat forward. Have you looked there? Assume yours a USA prius?

i agree with both above. the hatch is slightly different, so you're going to have to try it. maybe a salvage yard?

I recently got a 2012 Plug in, had the same question and stumbled on your post. Did you ever give it a try and did it work?
