I seen many videos on Youtube how to do this. Some of them show how to replace it directly. Others shows you bypass the ballast by tapping into the cable that connects to the ballast. So which is the correct way to do it? This is the bulb I'm looking at and I'm not sure if its compatible.
+1 I'm thinking of making this upgrade. $9.50 is a really low price, maybe too good to be true? For safety's sake I'm personally looking at the ~$30 options on Amazon. Using weak halogens on unlit country roads in WA has led to some close calls :/ This thread [LED headlights | Page 2 | PriusChat] recommended this $15 set from ebay [COB H4 HB2 9003 2000W 300000LM LED Headlights Kits Hi/Low Power Bulbs 6000K Fog | eBay]. May be worth considering too.
I did this conversion awhile back. See: LED Headlight Bulbs: Want to Upgrade Gen2 Package#3 | PriusChat
Which LEDs did you end up ordering? I see so many options recommended and not sure which to go with. I want something much brighter so I can drive safely on dark rural roads (my halogens don't let me see far enough at highway speeds), but I'm not sure I can trust the lumen ratings on what I see on Amazon/eBay. Plenty of options on Amazon for $25-35 that seem solid. I suppose any LED would outperform a halogen by a mile? Also not sure if I should worry about going too bright for fear of blinding oncoming traffic (but I suppose the low-beam position would matter more there) @Berch1943 OP did you end up ordering the $10 one you linked off ebay? or something else? EDIT: I went ahead and ordered a SEALIGHT Laxmas L2 from Amazon: Hoping it doesn't cause too much interference with the radio signal from my Bluetooth FM transmitter.
I just ended up buying this one on Amazon because the one on eBay I wasn't happy with. The brightness was poor that even the halogens looked better. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I just installed the SEALIGHT Laxmas L2 and can confirm it's nice and bright and the beam pattern seems to be good. Was a bit tricky to install but I was able to even keep the original gasket intact. Hoping it holds up well going forward. For $18 after coupon (still available) it was a good deal and I'd recommend it if you're looking at an upgrade!
