maybe it's just an O2 sensor or something. have you considered taking it back?

 

+1 The 02 sensor lines are cut when they steal the cat so the sensor has to be replaced and reconnected to the car.

A generic failure code at this point. Which device or app did you use to retrieve the above code (DTC)?

Do you have any interest in a DIY repair, or do you only wish to pay someone to make the problem go away?

How many miles of the vehicle, and do you plan on keeping it for any length of time?

Is your current HV battery OEM and untouched?

If the HV battery is actually failing, a "New" HV battery self installed would be 1600, or even less for a 'verified' used pack from a wreck. Either would likely outlast the vehicle.

Ok, we will assume that you want to keep this vehicle for at least 3+ years. What happens when your 1800 rebuilt battery fails and Joe Savage tells you the warranty is no longer usable, will you be spending 1800 again?

It might be a good idea to pick up a simple bluetooth / wifi OBD2 adapter to use with an App like Dr Prius, which has a simple test that offers an idea of how much life your HV battery has left and which modules (if any) are potentially causing that DTC P0A80.

You have a 14 year old battery, that now has 159k on it, spending 1800 on rebuilding an old used HV battery doesn't make economic sense (and literally sounds like Joe is ripping you off or wanting to buy this vehicle). If you're able to spend that much, then it would be best to buy a NEW battery that will give you another 10+ years of trouble free service.

Ask Joe Savage how much he would charge to install a "New OEM battery" if you supplied it. Many skilled in the art of swapping out HV batteries can do it rather quickly, others might take 2-4 hours. A decent rate for this job might be $300 or less. Maybe you could do this yourself, or know someone that has basic hand tools and is able bodied.

If you're set on replacing or fixing the HV battery without investigating the problem, at least check what some of the local dealerships would charge for a new HV battery installed, as it would come with the same 3 year warranty (nationwide dealer coverage), though you would never need a 3 year warranty because the battery is actually **NEW**.

You could also buy a BRAND NEW aftermarket battery for 1600, which includes shipment to your door, no tax, and you get to keep and sell the 28 old modules for profit (instead of returning for a core charge), or maybe you can find someone would do the HV battery install in trade for the old matched modules.

If you're set on a "rebuilt" used HV battery, you can buy one for 995 that includes free shipping and free return shipping for the old "core", they are a known quality rebuilder/reconditioner. Just need to find someone to install it for you.

If you really wanted to live on the bleeding edge you could have someone install a brand new Lithium HV battery, then sell the old modules.

Do you carry any pets in the vehicle, and when was the last time you cleaned the HV battery fan?
