What would be the best engine oil grade for Prius 2016? What would be the ideal frequency to change engine oil?
The owner's manual says: 0w-20 (but you live in a hot climate so 5w-30 may be more appropriate) 10k miles (16k km) or one year with full synthetic oil (if using non-synthetic oil I would say 5k miles (8k km) or 6 months) JeffD
Owners Manual might say 0W16 (4th gen rev), but that’s maybe just Toyota trying to eke out a bit more mpg. Still, definitely consider heavier oil in hot climate.
Mendel, There has been a drive to use a new grade of oil, "GR-6B" in cars, but that is for engines that were designed for that oil. A 2016 Prius predates the spec, but Toyota says it is OK. I am sticking to 0w-20 in my Gen4. "0W16 oils were going to be part of the ILSAC GF-6 rollout as GF-6B oil. What is significant about GF-6B oils is that the specification will not be backward compatible because of the new viscosity grades." JeffD
