Alright, so it's my car's b-day today haha. Here are the two year total stats. Total mileage: 36,363.7 km Total cost of fuel: Cdn$1,669.05 Total amount of fuel used: 1801.896 litres Total cost of maintenance: Cdn$114.70 Lifetime Average: Calc'd: 5.06L/100km MFD: 4.83L/100km 1st year's stats: Total mileage: 18,869 km Total cost of fuel: Cdn$822.69 Total amount of fuel used: 949.296 litres Total cost of maintenance: Cdn$59.90 Lifetime Average: Calc'd: 5.14L/100km MFD: 4.94L/100km
Congrats. I just passed the 3 year mark on my Prius myself, right at 50k miles, still less than 1000 gallons of gas used and averaging 53.1mpg over the life of the car (actual). Couldn't be happier.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tideland Prius @ Oct 26 2006, 04:14 AM) </div> Thank you for the data. However... Calc'd mileage looks 1212.199 / 363.637 = 3.33 L/100km Again... Calc'd mileage looks 949.296 / 188.69 = 5.03L/100km What's wrong? Ken@Japan
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ken1784 @ Oct 25 2006, 11:34 PM) </div> Thanks. I corrected it in my first post. It should read 1801.896 litres. I did the calculation the way you did and got the answers you did, which, as you've pointed out, is different from what I posted as the MFD and calc'd average. It's weird. To get the lifetime MFD and calc'd averages, I just took the values of each, totalled and divided by the number of tanks. i.e. I have Calc'd and MFD average for each tank in each row. I totalled them up and divided by 66 tanks. Not sure why it's different than if we calculate the way you did.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tideland Prius @ Oct 26 2006, 02:56 PM) </div> I think you are doing the average of the averages. If you calculate this way, your result might be skewed because the distance travelled for each tank are not the same. To compare Calc'd against the MFD, you need to have a weighted average by the distance travelled per tank. You can do this by adding one more column to calculate the fuel used as reported by the MFD for each row. Then take the sum of this for the total fuel used as reported by the MFD and divide by the total distance * 100. hope this helps.
Hmm.. ok, that gives 4.955L/100km. That's the calc'd mileage not the MFD right cause the total fuel used is how much I pumped in and has nothing to do with what teh MFD says. So how would I compare calc'd vs. MFD averages.
Lifetime Calc'd Avg can be determined from your gas receipts but Lifetime MFD Avg is not so straightforward because your 2005 Prius MFD always reset after refuel, no? OK, I'll use your Oct data as eg. Total Mileage: 36363.7km Tank Mileage: 604.1km MFD Avg: 4.4L/100km Calc'd Avg: 4.64L/100km Price per litre: 92.9¢ Fuel Cost: $26.21 Fuel Added: 28.058 Fuel used as reported by MFD: 4.4/100*604.1=26.580 Total Mileage: 37081.2km Tank Mileage: 717.5km MFD Avg: 4.4L/100km Calc'd Avg: 4.48L/100km Price per litre: 93.4¢ Fuel Cost: $30.00 Fuel Added: 32.117 Fuel used as reported by MFD: 4.4/100*717.5=31.570 Total mileage: 604.1+717.5=1321.6 km Total amount of fuel used: 28.058+32.117=60.175 litres Total Fuel used as reported by MFD: 26.580+31.570=58.15 litres Lifetime Average: Calc'd: 60.175/1321.6*100=4.55L/100km MFD: 58.15/1321.6*100=4.40L/100km These are just 2 tanks Lifetime Avg, you can do this for the rest of your 64 tanks data.
I have 53,000 miles on my '05. I average 47.4 MPG (lots of highway driving). Including all maintenance, the extended warranty, and even repairs (2,500 in parking lot incidents-not my fault!), my total cost of ownership has been less than $.10 per mile. I get reimbursed $.44 per mile for about 90% of those miles, so I make out just fine. I will be able to pay cash for a new prius before I get to 100,000 miles. I could not be happier with my prius.
