My 2007 Prius with 241,000 miles has a dead hybrid battery and needs a water pump. Is it worth anything to anyone? The catalytic converter is fairly new, and the car is in reasonably good shape for its age and has been meticulously maintained. But I don't want to keep it. Are there mechanically minded fixer-upper or salvage folks that would pay anything for it? The Toyota dealership has offered me $100 as a trade-in, so getting anything more than that for it is fine with me.
of course it is! the cat is worth a fortune, and you could part it out, or someone may want to rebuild it. you could also donate it to charity
cat being the catalytic converter, a major part of the exhaust. They contain a small amount of precious metal, and right now the market for that stuff is way up. People are stealing them from street-parked Priuseses, so that one part is actually quite valuable. If yours still works, sell it to somebody who has had their stolen. You can get good money and you're helping keep another one on the road.
Hi John, and thanks for responding to my thread. Yes, it still runs. But for how long, who knows? I'm in Santa Cruz, so you'd have quite a long drive. How much would you give me for it?
Boy they just won't quit?? The Dealer is trying to screw you over. At Pick and Pull they would give you $450 bucks for it as is! It looks like you already have an interested buyer here?? And I'd find another dealer for a new Prius. because that dealer is already trying to screw you over.
Santa Cruise to San Diego?? Yeah that would be a pretty uh exciting drive with a "questionable," Prius?? It might make it but it might not?? Towing "insurance would be a wise call. For a wanna be new owner.
You're right of course. But I have a lot of experience with dying Prii, and I've managed to keep 3 of them of similar vintage limping along, until such time as I can "really" fix them. I'm confident enough that if the ICE starts I can do the trip.
Hi Julie, Yes, I've done that drive many, many times. Sometimes in a Prius with big problems which stopped unexpectedly a few times, and a few times in LA freeway traffic, so I'm both crazy and aware of the risks. I'll give you up to $1000. Please email me directly at [email protected] or text me at 831-238-3944 and I'll go into more details.
I just sold my 2005 with 370K miles for 1000$. They offered me much lower offer initially. I countered saying 1000$ is just the value of used OEM Catalytic converter. You are getting rest of the car for free. Dealer price for trade in is way too low.
Hi Landon51, and thanks for your reply to my thread and your interest in my dying Prius. I'd like to continue this conversation off PriusChat, but being new to it I cannot figure out how to private message you. Can you help me with that, or provide a personal email? Thanks. ~~ juliebit
reply to his post by clicking the reply button, that will at least get his attention. pm hasn't worked in a while.

You should get $1500 for a runner. The cat alone is worth that. Somebody will put $800 into it with a used battery refurb and a water pump and make $1500 in a flip. Probably won't even title it themselves, they will have you sign your title.
If i can buy it, it will become one working car. My battery and donatable parts will bring herd back to life. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
