Ten years ago I bought a Katzkin interior for my 2 year old 2009 Prius (brought new in September '08) from a Toyota dealer in Socal that did port installs of leather interiors for $295. I knew someday I'd need to replace it. So I stuck it in the attic for 10 years and basically forgot about it until a few days ago when I decided I wanted to freshen up my 325K mile car. Also restored the trim, detailed it, clayed it, 3 stage paint correction, and then ceramic coat. Given how little the car is worth, none of this was a good idea. It was driven entirely by my emotional and sentimental attachment to my 2nd gen. The front floor mats could not be cleaned to my satisfaction. I replaced the entire floor mat set once about 6 years into but they are no longer available. So bought the factory weatherized mats for this car which actually look great and only cost $57 delivered. Since I had all the seats out to replace the leather, I did a deep carpet clean on the floor and that turned out pretty great since most of the staining was on the front floor mats. The rear floor mats came out almost completely unblemished. The slight wrinkles are from the initial install and will vanish completely after a few sun heat cycles.
Yes. Original everything including the ABS brake actuator except for the coolant diverter valve which I replaced for $73. Dealer did water pump recall and combo meter replacement under enhanced warranty. Other than that, the least expensive car per mile I've ever had. The next least expensive car was twice the cost per mile. My mother in law has the same car produced on the same day. We ordered ours together at the same dealer and had them both delivered the same day in 2008. Her brake actuator went bad and I did the labor myself to replace it. So I'm prepared now for when mine eventually fails. I replaced six hybrid battery modules on my Mom's prius (not mother in law) a few years ago. We paid some guy $400 to do it the first time and he replaced one module and it worked for about 1 month. I finally figured out you have to capacity test (full cycle) each module out of the pack to determine which ones really need to be replaced. You can't go on techstream voltage alone. So far that pack has been good for several years. I'll eventually have the same issue on my battery pack. At this point, there's nothing that could fail on the Prius now that I couldn't repair fairly economically myself.
Agreed! Although the 2019 bumper redesigns on the Gen4 made it at least tolerable and the integrated Alexa in the newest Entune update is working great.
I tend to be OCD about my cars. My 2015 P85DL with 125K miles on it literally looks brand new. New scratches, dents, dings, swirls on the outside and the inside looks the same as the day it was delivered except the outside bolster on the bottom drivers seat has a few creases. I'm about to replace that cover but there are fewer Tesla options for parts than for Toyota.
Looks good, not so sure if 3 stage paint correction on a prius is necessary the paint is on the soft side and easy to correct. Side note, car is looking good and looks like you'll be able to go another 300k+. Does your actuator make noise? if so how long have you been using the car that way, not sure if I want to proactively replace mine when it could easily last another 50k with just the noise. Also it appears your headlight is leaking from bad seals it took me some time but they sell the black sealant tape that will save you time resealing the headlights opposed to using the sealant in a tube, I had condensation similar to yours and it reached the bottom where the ballast mounts, however got to the issue fairly quickly and only had to replace the bulb luckily as replacing the ballast is a lot more work.
