Quick DIY mod I did today. All the cars I've had/modded... the first thing I always do is to try and find a way to get rid of the dreaded "egg yolk" amber bulbs. Painted the rear turn signals with some silver paint until I can get a hand on some replacement LEDs. Looks so much better, yet it doesn't compromise road safety because it is still visible when activated. Enjoy.
Did you paint just the top half of the bulb, or the entire bulb? I just replaced all my bulbs with LEDs when I did my DRL for GEN II mod, they do look much nicer!
So long as they are legal in whatever country you reside in, in the US front turn signals must be amber and rears can be amber or red. Standard No. 108; Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment. - Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
And I really ferking hate red rear turn signals. Flashing red brake lights and flashing red turn signals have very different implications.
Not necessarily. In California, turn signals to the front can be white or amber [VC 24953. (a)], although sidemarkers must still be amber. However, it doesn't apply to the OP as they still flash amber (as with any chrome-coated amber bulbs). What's the worst that can happen, you slow down? You typically have to slow down anyway when the car in front of you is turning.
I don't brake if I can help it. In city driving I'm usually driving with a bit less buffer to allow faster flow behind me. Combine that with the first red flash not telling you anything and it means less time to make a decision about whether to brake or not. That can mean excessive or excessively fast braking and that means wasted gas. It seems to me that all amber turns signals are safer and more efficient
Yeah, I tried stuffing some LEDs in for the turn signal and reverse light but it wasn't the correct polarity. Need to search for some that works!
