My car is Prius 3rd 2013. The problem is that sometimes a photo error is displayed on the instrument panel. And the small triangle yellow warning lamp illuminates on the right side. It is irregular, not periodic or repetitive. If I translate Japanese, I think it means that can not find key. The strange thing is that there is no problem when driving alone. It usually occurs when other passengers get on or off the back seat. I don't think it's a problem because there's no battery. What's the problem?
"I don't think it's a problem because there's no battery" = I don't think the problem is no battery (my translation of Kiwi to English). But +1 on Jim Swart
Is the hatch fully closed? Don't just wiggle it to check. Open, make sure nothing is getting trapped in the latch mechanism, then close it very firmly. At least, that is a common Gen3 U.S. problem, and the message tends to appear with bumps in the road, or around corners. Don't ask for the logical connection between the problem and the displayed message, we haven't figured it out.
My 2015 started giving me that key not detected message some time ago and strangely, it ended up being a weak accessory battery (the 12v battery) After I replaced that, I never got the message again. I did replace the keyfob battery first but it didn't stop the warning.
While that is not a bad plan, necessarily, a battery for the FOB will be a lot cheaper. Do you have two FOBs ? Does it do that with both of them ??
I guess you don't know how to check a 12v battery, so just replace it and see if that works. Duh! I also said I REPLACED THE KEYFOB BATTERY FIRST. Reading is fundamental.
Do you keep your fob by your wallet? Credit cards nowadays have RFID chips in them and it can block the signal on your key fob.
