The 2021 models now include Android Auto! However the Google maps work poorly without a connection to the internet. Off-line map maker Sygic claims to work with Andoid Auto in the beta testing program. Has anyone been able to get the Sygic off-line map on the display with Android Auto to work? If so, what did you do to get Android Auto to include it in the app list? I have subscribed to the Beta tester, but still no inclusion in AA. Could be me, my phone or a Toyota thing.
Did you try downloading the off-line maps for Google maps? I've been using Android Auto for 5 years in my other cars with no problems with it running slow. Newest car has wireless Android Auto. No problems there either. Is your phone ancient?
Wireless AA! You are lucky. Shame Toyota does not do wireless AA. Nor multiphone bluetooth having 2 phones connected to receive calls on the same car simultaneously connected. These car companies are a decade behind the times for technology. The phone works fine, it just does not include the Sygic map app on AA. Not sure if it as a google or toyota thing, and why I was seeing if others had got it working and how. I know google has been very resistant with 3rd party AA aps they don't get $$$ from. Looks like Apple led the way, for Sygic works with ACP for over a year. I have yet to have good luck with google off-line maps. Major fail when visiting other countries. I downloading maps in advance that never worked. They cannot be trusted. Like most things google, they never get better. Even google home is exactly the same as 3 years ago with NO improvements of any kind. They still can't even normalize the variety of news feeds I get in the morning. At least it no longer wrongly states "I am still learning..." Anyway, off topic. Sygic and others like Maps.me are "real" off line mapping programs. I have tried dozens when internet access globally was a challenge. There are lots of good ones and most if not all are better than google.
Yeah, the wireless Android auto is very nice to have. I just keep the phone in my pocket and it connects to the car in about 15 seconds after I hit the start button. Lost count on how many times I left the phone in my previous car after connecting the USB cable to use wired AA. Maybe, Toyota will have it in 4-5 years.
The newly updated version (I think it is v20) of the Sygic beta app now works! And wow is this app crippled in features. You cannot even pan and zoom around the map by touch. And the search function is spotty at best. It is a start though.
