P0A80/P3000 at 75K/14 yrs

    My beloved low mileage 2007 threw the dreaded codes and the christmas tree of lights...

    The codes were pulled by a local shop, not the dealer. From reading posts here, the likely culprit is a bad cell (or cells?) of the HV battery pack.

    Question: Are there other possible culprits that would make it worth getting the dealer to diagnose it, or is that just throwing away good diagnosis $$ since the cause is pretty much known?

    I'm not capable of doing my own cell-by-cell diagnosis, nor of replacing the battery pack myself, so my options are more limited.

    I know that the battery pack replacement at the dealer could easily run in the $3K range.

    I guess my questions are these:
    (a) The car is low mileage, and should have a lot of life in it as a vehicle, but the car IS 14 years old. Is it worth putting in that kind of $$?
    (b) I have read a number of posts here about asking the dealer to call Toyota about a "goodwill warranty" based on low mileage, but I'm way past the 10 year warranty period. And no, I haven't had my service done at the dealer.

    i think it is well worth it, but keep in mind there could be a few other large expenses down the road.

    call around to every dealer you're willing to drive to for best price.

    generally speaking, yes. the battery does not usually fail outright. it is a slow decline.

    I just had something similar with an 85k, and I would caution that it may get worse and flip to emergency battery protection mode. That's where it'll cut out the electric motor which kills your acceleration and makes it dangerous to get onto a freeway. If that happens on surface streets, then turn it off and on again to reset.

    I would recommend getting a good OBD2 reader and Dr. Prius so you can clear codes and watch the pack voltages.
