With my Gen 2 Prius parked in my garage, my kids were playing in the back of the car while I was working on things in the front. Later that day, this turned up on our dining table. One of my kids said it came from under the hatchback floor (i.e. where the emergency kit lives - the jack, etc)... I don't recognize it and am not sure my young child is reporting this correctly. Does anyone recognize this part? It's 4" long and (after the bend) 1" in the next largest dimension.
It’s not shown in parts catalog Figure 09-01, Standard Tool, as one of the tools furnished with the car. It’s vaguely similar in shape to the jack handle, but the dimensions are much too small. I’ve seen similar tools included with other cars for use in removing the hubcaps or wheel covers, and perhaps one somehow ended up in your car.
It's not OEM Gen2 Prius that's for sure? And I'm not aware of an "emergency kit." Just a tow loop, spare tire, jack, hand crank and tire iron... Though this device could be used as a handy way to activate the manual hatch unlock when your 12v battery is dead.
Thanks! As it’s apparently not part of the car, I expect it is probably an emergency key for an interior house door (the kind of lock with a push button on one side and a small hole on the other)
