The cover on my center console arm rest is becoming undone at the release handle and loosening along the driver side length. I figure it would be an easy task to lift off the lid and resecure the cover, but I can't figure out how to get the lid off and to get access to the bottom of the lid bed. I can't find any "technical specs" that isolate the construction of this member. Any ideas on where it might be found? thanks,
The console cover is a known issue. capital Toyota replaced mine for free. I didn't even have to hassle them... for those of you who are out of warranty; you have to remove the rear cup holders (pull strait back) and unbolt the whole assembly from the back. techinfo.toyota.com it's 10 per day of access... or 50 for the month. just in case you feel like more projects need to be taken upon.
There are several screws on the underside of the lid. Remove those and you should be able to take the lid apart.
Thanks V8cobraKid - the rear entrance was what I was most lacking. Jelloslug - I couldn't get anything to budge after removing those four screws while it was in the car. But with both hints I was successful in my resecuring the cover. Thanks too V8cobrakid for the clue about the online daily rate for the reference manual.
In my case, the lid came apart (in a good way) after just removing the six Phillips head screws on the underside of the lid. I then removed my fabric and cleaned it with water and a bit of hand soap. It's 90% better; I think I'll let it drop and then use soap and a soft brush on the remaining (now only very slightly) dirty spots. In the process, I noticed the foam that goes under the fabric is worn out. I'd like to replace it, but have no idea where to look for that kind of material or what specs exist for foam padding (presumably thickness, and maybe firmness?) ... Researching that now...
