Just traded in my 2017 prius prime advanced for a 2021 prius prime limited. Color is wind chill. Pictures to follow. The prime is the most advanced prius IMO. Liked the 2017 and love the 2021.
Enjoy! We bought the 2021Prius Prime Limited in Supersonic Red (as named by Toyota). This is an awesome car in every way: road handling, gas mileage, technology features, you name it!
congrats - am also a new 2021 owner - but didn't have previous prime so am curious about changes vs. previous primes. LOVING the car - but a bit annoyed with the apparent roll back/loss of app/monitoring/control functionality - vs. older Primes.? Have used toyota app and carplay - but it's really lacking in explicit battery and consumption data/monitoring/displays for the 11.6 screen package. I mean - can I not have a miles/kwhr mileage bar showing current/etc.? every bar on the "trip information" screen on the 11.6 screen is maxed out at 200mpg because I"m in all EV mode. Can I not raise this limit? Can I not get real time EV consumption Toyota? JFC. Love the Limited with sonar/Blind spot, clearance, heads up display, etc. - but am a bit incredulous that toyota goes backwards on the touch screen/display/control options that were available in previous years on lower trims and other less expensive toyota models.
Traded my 2017 for a new 2021 since it only cost lunch money to switch. They took good and made it better. All the TSS2 features are much smoother than what was available in the 2017. But two little things were a major improvement. Number one - the visors have an extension so they actually work when blocking the sun on the driver’s side. And number 2 , they replaced the chrome strip on the dashboard with a brushed chrome strip. Man, the old chrome could occasionally blind you. Apple car play is the bomb!
Can't speak for the 2021's 11" screen, but shouldn't the MID display show MPG's up to 999? They changed the 199 limit on the MID display in 2019. My 2017 can only go up to 199, sadly. Of course, the main MID MPG is an average and not real time. No MPG display on the 11" in my car at all, or at least I haven't found it. I would want to monitor Wh/mile since that is the way many other EV's display efficiency, most notably TESLA. One can do the math from a chart or in the head and convert from miles/kWh. Your MID will display Mi./kWh as a running average and also has a yellow real-time arrow pointer if you use the MID split screen option. The range is 0-20 mi./kWh.
My 17 was red, my 15 white, my 10 red Apple car play, black facia on steering wheel and dash. Only have 40 miles on so far. Congrats, 5K off sticker (Toyota corp) 1K NYS, $800+ dealer and a 40 TV. An offer you couldn't refuse.
Can someone with the 11.6" screen on a 2021 confirm how I can get the split screen option to show miles/kwhr in real time with the little pointer? When you say MID - is that "main information display" - the digital readout next to speedometer - that you use the steering wheel buttons to scroll left to right and turn on/off Lane Trace/BSM, etc. - have not found ability to display real time mpkwhr there. Also the lack of display on the main 11.6' screen of this EV consumption number- or a useful scale - in the "info" screen when you press the leaf symbol. you get pretty useless dumb bars, and then a lovely picture of the prius animation WITH ZERO ACTUAL DETAILED INFO. argh. Thanks DavidA **update - (ok - have found that with RSA road sign assist - selected I can't see split screen - so going to try and turn off RSA to let me get miles/kwhr instant readout bar there at least). thx.
There are two un-improvements I've noticed so far: They removed the rear 12V outlet. The 2021 only has one 12V outlet for the whole car. They removed the cache radio feature from the LE trim.
Db17 - on our 2017 on the main screen there is useful consumption bars - 0-200mpg that post every mile or every minute - and it really gives a sense of usage. it's similar to what's on the main upper display except more granular and maybe 20 most recent bars - so really helps show usage during a drive. there is an attempt at this on the main screen with the 2021 prime 11.6 screen - but every single bar is tapped out at 200mpg - rather than show an EV based consumption history - with miles/kwhr. inexplicable. for EV driving how can there not be EV information.? argh. Anybody point me to how to get the split screen on my main upper display to at least give instantaneous EV consumption in miles/kwhr there? (ok - have found that with RSA selected I can't see split screen - so going to try and turn off RSA to let me get miles/kwhr instant readout bar there at least). thx.
Reading the manual will help. Again it was explained on this thread with the manual excerpt. New 21 Prime limited will not start car | PriusChat
thx. just found that in manual - but on mine it doesn't show up unless RSA road sign assist - is turned off. thank you! Yes manual reading can be your friend.
Yeah, RSA is a new feature on 2021 models with TSS2.0. The 2020 and earlier with TSS1.0 did not have the RSA. That's too bad you can't keep both split-screen info and RSA info at the same time.
I just downloaded the 2021 PP owner's manual. It seems, as you pointed out, Toyota has eliminated the Current electricity consumption subpanel to be displayed in the split-screen. I can't find this information in the 2021 models. I don't know what Toyota is thinking.
In my 2018, the "Current fuel consumption" screen would switch between MPG and m/kWh depending on whether I was in EV or HV. I don't know if it still does that.
just found current consumption in my 2021 in miles/kwhr - but i have to turn off Road Sign Assist - to allow it under the "i" section of the main info display. Annoying. Why toyota? there is a huge unused 11.6" screen you could use to show all sorts of info that this car collects and could display! EXCEPTIONAL CAR!!!! but really dumb tech integration, and pitiful readouts for TECH SAAVY and HUNGRY PEOPLE LIKE THIS ENGINEER WHO ARE YOUR TARGET BUYER FOR THE AMAZING PRIME PLUG IN. JFC TOYOTA. make this better - LET US DISPLAY THE DATA.
