Hey all, I'm a Prius C noob and don't know alot about batteries. But I wanted to get a battery tender for the 12V starter battery to make sure it stayed healthy and such (since I've had battery issues before and just recently got a new 12v starter). Anyway, some questions: What are some tenders/maintainers you've used with the Prius C? What amps should I be looking for? People on these forums say any is ok as long as I can keep it plugged in constantly. How do I know if I can plug in a certain one constantly? Thanks in advance!
Do some searching on here. This has been answered probably a hundred times already. Any "name brand" small, smart, automatic tender type charger will be fine. Something with a total capacity around 4 amps is a bit more versatile. You can't go wrong with the Battery Tender brand. You really do not have to connect it all the time. Just when it will not be driven for a week or more.......and maybe overnight once a month when it is driven regularly.
I wasted money more than once on one of those worthless Harbor Freight Trickle Chargers. Then I found this legit charger for $30 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Car-Battery-Charger-12v-24v-10A-Full-Automatic-Electric-with-Cleaning-Brush-/153613497733 It's fully automated and can pump out lots of amps for batteries deeply discharged and once charged will go into maintainer mode...
NO. Really ? I find that hard to believe. That one has some interesting features but it is a "generic Chinese" product and not sure I would trust it without some pretty close monitoring......at least at first.
Thank you for the responses, polite or otherwise! I'll try to get one of the Battery Tender brand ones and see how that goes.
