does it have a mode to use a little extra battery when you're almost at your destination and you don't want the ice to fire?
that's excellent, cause the pip fires the ice as soon as you run out of wall charge, even if you're going 1 mph.
Really? That's ridiculous. Well the Gen 4 *feels* like there's more motor torque available. You can jab the accelerator on our Gen 4 and the engine stays off.
yeah, you can't go by the lift back, the software operates differently, because the engine warms up when you first start it. pip allows you to drive with a cold engine, but not without wall charge. i guess they figured it's better to warm up the engine as soon as it runs out, rather than some point with lower battery capacity. hopefully prime is more flexible. ford has a button for the times you are almost at your destination, and there's no point to warming up the engine.
I really like the EV Mode, verses EV Auto. I was always pissed when the ICE started because I had to step on the Gas. The Prime in EV Mode won't ask the ICE to start, until you exceed 84 mph or run out of battery. EV Auto is more like the PIP was. I don't plan to use it.
From my experience with our 2017 prime, auto ev is the way to go when you do longer trips than battery autonomy allows. Like motorway trips. It intelligently uses the battery together with the fuel engine. I.e. going higher than 64 oumph, in auto ev, the engine can shut off in a slope on the highway and use the ev mode untill you climb again ( lots of hills in Tennessee, Kentucky). This does not work when HV mode is on (and battery % is --) and the engine keeps running for no reason in a slope. There are several strategies. For ~100 mi trip: Instead of using all your ev mode in 25 mi, you spread the use of the battery over longer time and distance. Therefore less stress on the battery one could say. I get slightly better milos/liquid compared to not using auto ev. But the prime can not guess how far you ll go this trip ( even if you enter destination in onboard gps). Usually at beginning of trip( 100% ev level) i warm up the engine first on HV briefly, then shift to auto ev, preferably not when stuck at a red light. For much loner trip, same as above but i use ev only on small roads and full fuel on highway. Keeping some ev range for small roads where it s more silent in ev. Just depends on how much you want to trick the car pc. Ideally, the prime would have more than 8.8 kwh battery. 20 would be great. Voila. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Is the European PHV/Prime software tuned differently? In the US/Canada, the engine will shut off on downhill slopes even in HV mode.
None of those videos mention the Charge mode. Long-press the EV/HV button turns on charge mode for when you're highway driving after which you can switch back to EV mode. I've had my Premium for two years and only JUST found this out. WTH?
