Hello! I live in TX in the Dallas area. My catalytic converter was stolen and I’m not sure what to do. Will a replacement such as the one on Amazon in the link below work? If so, what else will I need to replace it? I am not very handy with cars at all so how difficult is it to replace myself, or does anyone know how I could find a place that would replace it using one that I buy? Thank you for any assistance! here is the link:
I just went through this. The new one needs to be welded on. Take it to a muffler shop and they will do it. Also ask them to put a shield on to prevent it from happening again. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Furthermore, you may need a new O2 sensor if they clipped that, and also the inner gasket 'donut' which aftermarket units are prone to leak, ours was kind of cracked so I decided to buy a new OEM unit in order to get a proper seal on our aftermarket unit. Hopefully this car is good for another 50k+ as the guys in the shop stated. You can do it yourself if you're motivated enough, but you'll need to weld the unit to the resonator (assuming that's intact) to ensure a proper seal and avoid leaks and aligning it while on the ground isn't impossible but worth having someone do it if you don't have a lift. The little clamps that come with aftermarket units are worthless and will leak after a few miles. PS: Mods can you whitelist me? I can't even quote without modfying people's posts. Thanks!
