My Blue Prius replaces my trusty 1996 Acura Integra LS. That car served me very well in the past 8 years of ownership, and never stranded me and was still looking great due to my diligent care. However, 188K miles means maintenance costs were adding up... Selling points for me on the Prius... - fuel efficiency (obviously) - I drive a lot and for work - tax break - hatchback style & interior space (loved that Integra versatility) - Safety equipment (airbags, TCS, VSC, etc...) - CVT (wife will start driving soon, so it will be easier for her... though a part of me will miss the "experience" with a sporty stick) - four (five?) doors - we will be starting our family soon... - Toyota quality - Geek gadgets! And last but not least, I am not a tree hugger, but I like to do my part of the environment, when practical... Kevin
1992 Pontiac Bonneville, 212,000 miles. Still runs pretty good, but the engine and tranny are making noise (both are original) .. drove this thing for 10 years and put 170,000 miles on it. My reasons for (ordering) a Prius. Obviously the MPG will make a huge difference, my Bonne gets 17 city / 25 highway. Also, "cool" factor, and the $3150 tax credit negates the premium for the hybrid powertrain Here's hoping my new Prius lasts at least 200,000 miles like my old one. Satsuke
I will be replacing my gas hog 2001 Jeep Cherokee. Low milage....just looking forward to better gas milage and being a lot easier on the environment.
Mine's replacing my Nissan X-Terra, which I absolutly loved. I actually just sold it this morning and was sad to see it go (and yes I cried, no laughing). I was suppose to get my Prius today, but... you know how the story goes, still waiting. I can't wait to get it. I don't think I will have any regrets, it just would have been nice to have my Prius there waiting for me after saying goodbye to my car. I've only got to test drive the Prius a couple of times through a friend that had an older model, around the block. So haven't really gotten to get my feet wet with it yet and can't wait to drive one over 15 mph. My dealer in the meantime is tiding me over with a Toyota Avalon rental car, that tell's me it should be soon, as now it's costing them $$ while they keep me hanging. Mostly have been convinced through this site, iv'e become a Prius fanatic because of all of the excitement you guys have about your cars, and it's become contagious.
My Red Toaster Oven is in addition to my other cars....both that get 15MPG and are not allowed in the carpool lane. One is a Bentley Continental GT, and the other is a Range Rover. The Prius is really cool, and I hope to learn more from this message board on it's features and benefits.
When I finally buy it, I'll be replacing my Isuzu Trooper. Ok well my wife will get the Trooper, but that sucker only gets 12 MPG.
Mine replaced the 15 mpg Nissan Quest Minivan that I got to replace my piece of junk 12 mpg GMC Envoy (it only lasted about 6 months before I started having electrical problems and it was bought new). Both got horrible mileage, and I decided I wasnt going turn the "young" age of 30 in a minivan just for my kids... The prius holds a double stroller just as well-and the upcoming soccer and t-ball equipment should fit just fine too. B)
I drove a 97 Dodge 1500 4x4 (14mpg). Wife had a 2000 Dodge Neon (30mpg). Neon was hit, so we looked at a Prius but time was of the ess. and we live on a big hill that is a pain with snow. So we got a Subaru Outback (most of the time 30mpg) then deal came in on 05 Prius. Wife now drives Prius (ave 56mpg) and I got the Subaru. Unless it snows bad then she drives Subaru and get the Dodge truck and the Prius stays safe in the garage. So Prius savings allows us to keep the truck to haul things and snow driving.
1997 Bonneville - gave car to my son - great car but only 20 - 25 MPG, although able to get 30 MPG on long trips
Mine replaced a 1996 Toyota Camry V6 that got about 30 mpg (Hwy) that had about 205,000 miles on it when it got totalled in an accident in the middle of August 2006. We also have a 2005 Ford Excursion (diesel that gets almost 20 mpg hwy) and 2005 Ford Freestyle AWD. I just wish the other cars got the mpg's that the Prius gets! I averaged about 40,000 miles per year in the Camry that will now go on the Prius so I should be giving it a good work-out. I intend to drive it as long as possible and hope for at least 5+ years and 200,000+ miles. I hope the battery holds but we will see. Anyone driven one over 150,000 miles and have to replace a battery?
1997 Civic. I drove it for 10 years and 133,000 miles; had promised myself if I hung onto it for 10 years, I'd reward myself with a new one. Been thinking about the Prius for a couple of years now, waiting for the 10 years to finish...
'99 Ford Windstar. It had 140,000 miles when the transmission went. That was 2 yrs. ago and my husband and I have been back and forth whether to fix it or get a new car. So I finally caved and bought a new '07 Prius (boy was he shocked when I got home). We also have an F-350 diesel and a '95 Mitsubishi Galant. Can't wait to rid of the Galant but  that diesel. As for the Windstar, I still have it and will be looking into donating it.
I traded in my Chevrolet Malibu and my Mercedes for my 2007 Prius. It was the best automotive decision I have made yet.
I traded in my E Class Merc because of the inflated prices for parts (daylight robbery), exorbitant servicing costs and after I read somewhere that Daimler-Benz had been fined for contriving to keep prices artificially high. I decided it wasn't a company I wanted to do business with. Since I converted to Prius I have saved at least over 1/3 of my annual motoring costs (tax/petrol/insurance servicing) v the Merc and I'm green as well - its nice having a car that's a littile bit different from the rest.... Have to say though, Mercs are good cars.
I replaced a 2001 Civic with my Prius. I got the Civic because I was not 100% sure I wanted to be on the cutting edge of hybrid cars back then, and the waiting list was so long. I am glad I waited, since I love the look of the 2nd generation. Love my 2006.
I had a 2001 MB SLK-230, which I have not been able to bring myself to sell yet (will be on the market soon though). A fun car, looking forward to a convertible hybrid! Bought my Prius in a rush to get the full tax credit, so did not get the options I would have liked. Kind of reget not waiting for what I really wanted even if I would have lost out on 1500 from the gov. That said I do love the Prius , just envy some of options I did not get....
