The previous owner our 2010 Prius 2 put on a new driver's door due to a collision. Our little physical keys in the fobs will not open the door. Suggestions please for most economical way to remedy. Thanks, Paul.
We have two Priuii, so far we have never attempted to unlock/open a door using the physical key. I suggest that you talk to a locksmith.
As long as you can open the door with a fob, a locksmith can read the number off your lock cylinder and cut you two new key blanks that will fit, in next to no time, probably very little money. If you buy a replacement lock cylinder at the dealer, it will come with two already-cut keys that fit, and then you just swap that cylinder into your door, but that's probably more than the locksmith would charge.
Thanks, do you know if there is a chip of some kind in the little physical keys? Also, with the smith need to extract the cylinder to read the number? Best Paul
Yes, I do; no, there isn't; and yes, he/she will, which is quite easy, as long as you have a fob that opens the door.
Ask a dealership service department? I’d suspect they could give you an over-the-phone answer/quote without credit card extraction. But be on your toes lol.
