    How’s your oil consumption?

Please post pictures. The Exhaust Gas Recirculation cooler interior*, intake manifold interface with cylinder head.

    * Exposure and focus can be tricky, exposure in particular. A lot of posted pics of the cooler are auto-exposed, and the shiny end flange throws it off, interior just black. See what you can do.

If you do EGR cleaning, it would be very helpful to PriusChat if you could post your before and after flow test results from the car's computer.

People often do this cleaning, and when asked about the before/after flow numbers, turn out not to have thought to get the numbers before starting, and then of course it's too late.

It used to burn some ( half qt in 1k) but it minimized burning oil after using 2 times HM oil, then with the green cap it didn't burn any noticeable on the last 200k trip, which has mountainous roads
Sure I will take, took a note for that
I can try it but I don't know how to perform it, just need a guidance to do it

Do you have access to Techstream? If so, try following the links in that post, goes to how to request the result.

Nope, I m the third owner, the first one was a salesman who put interstate trips, the second put 100miles/daily. That's why I got this on 233k for 3600 bucks

I am looking at a 2012 Prius 3 with 200K miles for $4k - does that sound like a good deal?

Check the history of the car, also chatting with the current owner is most important I think, personally, I can understand how s/he took care of it after conservation. A careful, sensitive, and reliable person will come through obviously. If you can feel good about both owner and car, 4k is a great price for that

Besides the oil being changed on a regular basis I don't think it was taken care like a prius should be even though he has never had a check engine light on and nothing that gave him any issues. But the EGR was never touched or cleaned and this is asking for trouble at 180k-ish miles.

Do you have an opportunity to plug Techstream into it and retrieve the EGR flow numbers?

If you like to be official about it, you would get those from techinfo.toyota.com, you could sign up for two days at the professional/diagnostic rate and you'd get a two-day key code.

I passed on the car and he immediately sold it to the next guy in line. I just couldn't justify paying $4K for a Prius that will mostly need a head gasket job soon and who knows whatever else at 180K miles.

you would also need to save or stash an additional $2-3k of car repair fund with head gasket and or hv battery replacement.

I also have a 10, not yet at 250k, but 204k. Second owner did the EGR cleaning, and installed a catch can. My MPG figures match yours. I have no oil consumption issues, no coolant loss issues, the ICE starts quickly, quietly, and runs smoothly at any temperature, including cold soaked at -20F we had here recently. The extensive service records that came with the car indicate that the first owner had the intake manifold replaced twice under warranty, I do not know the circumstances that precipitated that. The head gasket is original, or at least there is no record of it, nor sign of it ever having been replaced, as is the HV battery. I just the other day removed the HV battery cooling fan to clean, and found it really was not all that dirty. Lets check back when ours both have over 400k on them bwahahaha.

Haha sounds like you have way to go! Does the can catch significantly?
