    Weak.

Yeah, ok, you and some private investors raised 1.8m to buy a bunch of EV's (what was your part out of curiosity?)... I suppose this somehow is supposed to inspire some sort of meaningful change? This is somehow supposed to change the administration how? How about something more directly meaningful like backing certain candidates with your viewpoints? Why not run for office yourself? Protest at a magnitude like Cindy Sheehan.. Instead, you and private investors pool money and buy a bunch of EV's...

Dude, bottom line reality is this: sophisticated hobbyist does not equate to any meaningful change within the government... Great, you've got a bunch of EV's and can go on tirades about energy depence, foreign oil, blah, blah, blah, show people this or that, make them aware, etc., but it's far too indirect to be meaninful on any other terms than long...

Now, if you spun your purchase as anti-Bush, anti-war motivated, somehow, and made CNN headlines, THEN you've got something...

Wow, Squid, so, now you are lambasting me for NOT being anti-Bush enough, and $1.85 million is chump change.

I seriously believe you need professional help, maybe start with trying to get to the bottom of your internalized anger.

I can see now that you have gone off the deep end and care neither for logic or courtesy; you want only to wallow in you own putrid hate.

So be it. I'm done with you.

No, what I'm saying is/asking is what are you doing that is causing meaningful change? That's it. Cindy is my best example in this respect, because of her, there are armies of people who will ultimately vote for certain candidates more in line with their viewpoints. I'm sure people like Cindy have made or broken various candidates running for this or that across the board, THAT'S meaningful change. Had you guys made CNN headlines, gotten interviews with Larry King, THAT sort of thing, then we're talking real, meaningful "power" that might be turned into a "movement"... Hell, maybe your group should have gotten together with Cindy....

Hell, maybe that 1.85 could have lobbied various politicians to vote a certain way on a certain energy policy that would have FAR greater impact...

My only issue here is really how does buying (er, attempting to buy) a bunch of used EV's change anything?

You blow your load and ask me to put my money where my mouth is and serve, yet buying a bunch of used EV's falls waaaay short of any sacrifice even one soldier's life makes... So SHOW US THE MONEY and let us know how buying a bunch of used EV's is changing anything.

Agreed. When you're angry with the world, maybe the problem isn't with the world. Especially not the "ilk of this board" who ineffectually "vent on PriusChat", but still somehow ruined the war.

For the other war supporters, thinking a little more rationally than Squidman:
"Cut & run" isn't good. It isn't good at all for our standing in Islamic eyes. But in a matter like this, you need to do it right or don't do it all. It's affecting the likely outcome of the war and the future of the west's relations with the Islamic world. Is the left to blame for Bush's & Rumsfield's decisions on troop numbers back in 2003 when media attention and popular opinion was still largely positive (at least evenly split)? Or follow-up decisions in 2004 when it was clear we were fighting more than residual Bathists/Hussein supporters? Congress gave him everything he asked for. Even if Bush was making these decisions based on public opinion polls instead of the generals' knowledge, then shame on him, not shame on us. He was voted in to make the tough decisions, even if we sometimes disagree. We do what we can to let our position be known, but he's ultimately responsible for getting the job done right.

It doen't take a morally superior person to see options beyond bashing his face in or going hungry. It does however require intelligence, a thing hard to come by, or so it seems.

Squid - sorry to disagree but as a lifelong conservative, I think Bush has exercised utter incompetence here and it is plain to see for everyone except perhaps you, Laura and GW. I mean even Michael Savage is ragging on Bush and Rummy's incompetence. Sure, a guy like Savage would fight the war more brutally - but that's really not the problem at this point. Beyond the lack of WMDs we were told Saddam had, beyond the incompetent planning for post-war occupation, and beyond things like not knocking off Al-Sadr when we had the chance, it's hard to find a lot of things the administration has done right in Iraq.

As a conservative, my first and foremost skepticism is of the ability of government to do much of anything right. If there is one lesson in Iraq for conservatives, it is that our underlying distrust of and belief in the fallability of government has once again - very sadly in this case - been proven accurate.

BTW - I'm assuming you are a conservative - and as such, I'm not sure why you are rushing to defend a guy like Bush who has vastly expanded the welfare state (biggest spender since LBJ), has run up huge deficits, has undermined our national security by failing to address our leaky borders, has pushed the silly no child left behind notion, etc. If you examine his conservative credentials, you will see he ain't one. Are you?

It's all well and good to criticize. Now tell us what would you do? So far many terrorist attacks around the globe and yet none here. What would you have done? “Anything but invade Iraq†does not count as an answer.

It sounds to me as though:
You're either Martin Luther King Jr. or you're uninfluential.
You're either Albert Einstein or you're stupid.
You're either Wade Boggs or you're physically handicapped.
You're either Bill Gates or unemployed.
You're either a conservative or an donkey.

Hey, Squid, have you been smoking angry-weed or what? It's no secret on this board that I hate the Democrats. They've started plenty of wars and have blood soaked into their hands deeper and more indelible than Lady Macbeth. But this one is W's war from start to finish. He pulled the troops off the search for bin Laden to go after a guy that had nothing to do with al Qaeda or 9/11. He went in unprepared, and with no plan for the guerilla war that was inevitable after the Iraqi army was defeated. He did everything wrong. And the worst thing you can say about the Democrats (and it's damning enough!) is that they rolled over and gave the shrub everything he wanted. The "liberal" media repeated the shrub's lies as if there had actually been some evidence for them beyond White House's transparent fabrications, that even the CIA was so ashamed of that it had to be brow-beaten into signing off on them.

Sorry, Squid, but you've got nobody to blame for this fiasco but Bush and his extremist cronies. So sit down, count to ten, get back on your anti-psychotic meds, and let's see the old Squid again, who couldn't give a flying f... about anything but lying on the beach and watching the waves and the sunset.

Poor Squidly feels huge defeat coming on in November and is depressed. However, those feelings of perhaps impending injustice is a glimmer of what most of the nation has felt for 6 very long years under the thumb of your compatriots. Show a glimmer of empathy for us, after all, 'you' and your ilk have 2 more years to continue to ruin the nation and our worldwide standing which was built over decades. I'm sure you can flush the rest down the toilet just like Clinton's huge budget surplus and leave the nation with absolutely nothing positive after only one 8 year presidency.

    You said it.

Sick of this crap. That pretty much sums up the Bush administration for me. Patriot Act, Iraq, Outing Plame, Ashcroft, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Decider, just sick of that crap. I suppose if you hold the right stocks, then it's all gravy for some folks, see Halliburton for example:

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/fn/4279402.html

    Halliburton's 3Q Income Rises 22 Percent

"This was an exceptional quarter for Halliburton," said Dave Lesar, the company's chairman, president, and chief executive officer in a prepared statement.

"Iraq was better than expected," said Jeff Tillery, analyst with Pickering Energy Partners Inc. "Overall, there is nothing really to question or be skeptical about. I think the results are very good."

Actually, I take a fair amount of comfort knowing your ilk did not hinder any of the key events throughout the Bush presidency. A little too much too late, what's done is done :p . The only problem is the exit strategy, we can choose to leave as winners, or losers molded by the liberal influence... Currently looks like the latter, as obviously, following through on a tough job is a bit too tough for such likeminded folks as yourself. Much easier to cut, run, and make excuses isn't it? <-------- Liberal mantra

BTW, here's your blindfold, any last words?

We are sick of different things. I am sickened by chickenhawk cowards and draft dodgers. "Christians" that support torture of innocents are pretty damned nauseating, too.

Those who delight in shining the searchlight of criticism upon others should, instead, focus the illumination of introspection upon themselves.

Not a liberal mantra. It's a Bush administration framing, which is all they can manage to do because using real phrases that require intelligence to understand is not in their make-up. Here's your list of other administration framings; attach it to your forehead with a stapler so that you can remember just how effective this administration is:

    Compassionate conservatism (bwha-ha-ha)
    Not into nation-building
    Flip-flopper
    Political capital
    Mission accomplished
    No child left behind (bwha-ha-ha)
The war will pay for itself (bwha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-infinity)
    Greeted as liberators

The only people making excuses, btw, is the administration. What a joke. He has effectively screwed our country to the wall.

And thanks for the trolling. You gave me a break from my tedious day. And while I have thought in the past that you were missing a few marbles, now I'm sure of it.

We will never leave as 'winners'...the enemy we fight is too mercurial. But no reasonable liberal or democrat has put forth a policy of 'cut and run'...that's a pure neocon fiction.

But being realistic and accepting what can and can't be accomplished in Iraq is the intelligent thing to do. We can't/shouldn't/won't 'cut and run'. But a scaled withdrawl, over time, while instituting what measures of control, power, and independance possible during the several years it takes to do that is important. Currently there is no 'exit strategy'...previously there was no 'exit strategy'...just magical thinking ala a childhood fantasy book that when we came in as brave knights on white stallions that we'd instantaneously be seen as heros, a new order would immediately come in to replace the old, and off we'd ride into the sunset.

That mistake occured because of sheer ignorance of the culture of the region. Our president thinks he can fly into a country on AF1, ride around in a convoy of black armored limos, shake some very carefully selected hands and maybe carry on a 30 second conversation with some western schooled rich dude and suddenly we're supposed to believe he 'understands the peoples' needs'. Sheesh! If only.

We need someone in office who can see the situation for what it is and put it into the proper cultural and political perspective. Then choose individuals to set up the government and the powers that be in such a way that the Iraqi and Muslim community will accept it. Just because we think our form of a Republic/democracy is the best way doesn't mean that others agree, and shoving it down their throats won't make it any more acceptible, it's just more likely they'll regurgitate it right back in our faces.

Great quote I heard on Meet the Press other morning, I think from Senator Moynahan....
"You're entitled to your own opinion, but you're not entitled to your own facts."

Stop the presses! Squid now realizes Democrats have been ineffectual against this administration. Lets analyze...He's thouroughly sick of this crap of Liberals ruining the country, but realizes they have not hindered junior. ????? Therefore it follows that by Squid's decree neocons have f**ked it all up on their own.

DON'T SHOOT!!! Squid I wanna be just like you...'He's sunk so low there's no where to go, nothing to do"
I know, I can't qualify to be just like you...I'm not a mindless neocon propagandist, but I can still hold you out as a beacon of hope (NOT)!

Remember, you've had your turn and questioned why the masses don't support your ilk. I know you will do better when Hillary is President. You will accept election defeat and welcome her with open arms with your whole-hearted, undivided support, just as you wish I would do for 'your' thief-in-chief. Why? Because you are the better man and will 'show' me how it's done.

Hey folks, take it easy on the Squid! The guy's obviously gone off his meds and he's not responsible for what he says.

BTW, when I was snorkeling in Bonaire, I saw real squids. They are really cool and funny-looking. They swim backwards by blowing water out their mouths.
