Hey everyone, So this past Friday I was driving on the freeway (about and hour away from my house...) going about 70-75mph and all of a sudden all the warning lights on the dashboard came up and I started losing a lot of power with a message on the dash saying: "Check Hybrid system, stop the vehicle in a safe place" So I took the first exit off the freeway, luckily there was a Autozone right there and we pulled into their parking lot. I googled the message and said it could be a weak battery in the rear. But the Autozone workers say he'd recommend we go to the local hybrid repair shop down the street and I went over there. At the hybrid repair shop, the worker ran some sort of test on the car, cleared the codes and one code kept coming back, "ac/dc...etc" and said we needed to get the inverter assembly replaced. He recommended we try to look for one on eBay or a local junk yard. He said we could leave the car there since we probably should drive it, as it would break down somewhere... Has anyone else dealt with this issue? if so, did you buy a second hand inverter assembly? How has the car been? Should the worker check more components before we go ahead and replace the inverter assembly? Maybe like the battery? Thank you!
Yes, got mine off ebay. BUT, since you did not tell us the year, it could be under warranty. Else, be sure it is the same or better model number as recommended by the dealer since there might be a replacement one. It is an easy 45 minute job after disconnection the orange safety plug from the HV battery and disconnect the 12v one too; there are YouTube vid showing how.....
Specifically, I'd want to find out if the issue is covered by warranty extension ZE3, which extends for 15 years and unlimited miles. However, it may cover only 2010-2014 cars, not a 2015. Worth confirming.
