For those of you browsing with Internet Explorer, be advised that Version 7 is now available as a free download. Its most useful feature is tabbed browsing. An example of its use is when you are composing a message in PriusChat and feel a need to Google something. Tabbed browsing keeps your PriusChat window from disappearing while in Google. A list of your open windows appears on the top and you can switch back and forth. Very useful.

Sure is. I've been using tabbed browsing for years. That's why I'm on Mozilla. Safari has tabbed browsing too but won't work off a one button mouse. Kinda stupid seeing as Macs are known for one button mousing. And I think having to hold down a key while using the mouse button is equally stupid. Mozilla has always let me do tabbed browsing with one button. Sweet.

Or course I've also been using a Wacom tablet for years and the mouse has a right and left click so Safari is no problem. I can do tabs with a right click.

Internet Explorer just now got tabbed browsing? Where have they been?

You beat me to it. I was tempted to take a screen capture of my current Firefox session and ask, "does it look like this?"

I'm sure IE7 will be pushed down to me at work via Desktop Management. At home, it's Firefox all the way.

The most powerful of new features that IE7 offers is the ZOOM.

I'm amazed how clean it is; everything scales remarkably well. Positioning of objects (text & graphic) remain consistent as they grow and shrink.

I used IE back in 96? when I first got on the net. Then switch to Netscape because it was better. But as we all know microsoft made Netscape crash all the time so I switched back to IE for a few years. Then I discovered the Mozilla suite 1.2. I was hooked. Been using the suite ever since up until last week when I started using Firefox 1.5 and Thunderbird 1.5. From the look of it Firefox 2 will be released this Tuesday. :D I cant ever see switching back to crappy old IE and outlook no matter what they add to them. Plus when i'm forced to move off XP I will be going to Linux and it will be easy to move my settings over.

    Long live open source! :D

I've been using Netscape when it came out back in 1995 (and Eudora Light mail for those who remember). Switched to IE when IE5 came out. (Also had Netscape 6 & 7 for a while but it took up too much memory and was slow to load on my PIII 450Mhz). Switched to FireFox after IE6 when one Windows update kept crashing IE.

Took MS a while to get IE7 out.

I've stuck with IE because it has Identity Swapping which I don't see on the other browsers. I have four e-mail addresses and like to switch between them easily and IE is the only one I've found that allows this.

There's some sites that seem to be geared to IE, so I use it when I visit them. Like the others, I use Firefox.

Thanks for posting the update. Having tabs is great.

    Microsoft's slogan for IE7:

    “We heard you
You wanted it easier and more secure
    Introducing Internet Explorer 7â€

    Yeah, RIGHT!

So why is it less than 24 hours after the release of IE 7 do we have our first security alert flaw?
    http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/10/19/1326247

    Test the flaw here . . .
    http://secunia.com/Internet_Explorer_Arbit...erability_Test/
click on the “start the test†link.

A good read on the two browsers . . .

Yes, I wanted it easier and more secure . . . that's why I use Firefox.
I have been using the Release Candidates of Firefox 2 since the day they came out (now at RC3). Works great! :D

Firefox 2 is out and you can download the spelling feature which allows you to spell check forums as you type!

Bloody great feature, once downloaded just right click and tell it to check the field that you are typing in it will and in real time!

Firefox has had tabed browsing for a long time (I dont like it though) and its faster than ie

I'm a little confused with your“Identity Swapping†term . . . sounds like a scary thing to be doing in IE, but who knows . . . IE is probably helping swap your identity with anyone who want it anyways. <_<

If you are saying you have several different email accounts and would like to easily see them all, the Mozilla Thunderbird program has done that for a long time.
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/
All you need to do is remember your master password, Thunderbird will then send the individual login passwords to your different email accounts at the same time. You have access to all your email accounts on one screen – a global inbox! . . . no need to be swapping anything.

I trust Thunderbird for being a more secure program to boot. It's open source . . . anybody can get in and inspect the code. Can't do that with M$$$ programs. Who knows what type of evil lurks in IE and Outlook. Oh, yeah, Microsoft does. <_<

    Outlook security status:

    http://secunia.com/product/102/
    Most Critical Unpatched
“The most severe unpatched Secunia advisory affecting Microsoft Outlook Express 6, with all vendor patches applied, is rated Moderately criticalâ€

    Thunderbird security status:
    http://secunia.com/product/4652/
    Most Critical Unpatched
"There are no unpatched Secunia advisories affecting this product, when all vendor patches are applied.â€

Those in the know run Firefox and Thunderbird (or other non-Microsoft products). Those who don't know the difference are assimilated and forced to use inferior products. ;)

No, they haven't pushed the button as of this writing, STILL RC3 status, but they are very verrrrrrrry close. :)
    http://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox2/StatusMeetings/2006-10-17

    Me personally, I wouldn't wait.
Even their October 17th meeting notes states [assuming no major glitch reports returned] “RC3 doesn't need to be updated in any way to become Firefox 2.â€

    Firefox 2 does updates automatically.

I confused Thunderbird with Firefox, the e-mail program with the browser.

Thunderbird allows me to set up different accounts but, once done, I see nothing that lets me switch between these accounts. The Thunderbird "Help" for this subject says nothing, and there is a line on the top that says "This is very much a work in progress." I agree.

I don't want a global inbox. I prefer to keep the messages for my different e-mail addresses in their own boxes. Outlook Express makes this easy. Thunderbird doesn't.

I'm not so paranoid about Microsoft as many seem to be. I've been using computers since the TRS-80 and, except for the occasional virus over the years, have never been hurt by Microsoft programs. If something is better, I'll consider it. If not, as they say, "Don't fix it if it isn't broken." My e-mail works just fine. How is Thunderbird better?

Opera has offered Zoom for years... and FF has had Zoom extensions for a while now.

But still, let's all welcome IE7 to 2001. Great to see it there.

you don't need a global inbox. just set up separate accounts, you can keep all your inboxes separate, but see them all on the same screen. just create a new account for each email address. i have had my ISP email and 2 university emails all in the same screen without merging any of them.

now i just have the one uni mail, i'd add my yahoo but they won't give me access through thunderbird without paying for it.

You can 'simulate' Yahoo inbox access with some 3rd party programs that are out there (tons actually, search on freshmeat.net). In the past, I've used :

    http://yosucker.sourceforge.net/

It's perl, which means if you're running windows you'll need to install perl. And I've never set it up with Thunderbird, but I can't imagine it's difficult.

I seem to be able to use 3 different email accounts all at the same time in Thunderbird and all in their separate Inbox. I just click on the Inbox I want to see the new email. I've been doing that for years. Switching profiles not needed.

Thunderbird has many better features than OE or even just Outlook. Better search features, More secure, One of the best junk mail filters, and Anti-Phishing Protection just to name a few.

I don't get this window. I have three accounts set up but whenever I log on it goes to the default account and I find no way to access the other two as your window shows.

In my left window all I get is "Main E-Mail" and below that "Local Folders." Yet when I check my accounts I have two others.

you're missing one checkbox that will fix all that. go back and re-set up your accounts (i don't see a way to go in and reconfigure this) and MAKE SURE this box is not checked:
