The biggie for me is that Prius will likely limp into the 2022 model year as the 7th year of gen 4. My gen 3 will be past 12 years. I know I can keep it going but I'm ready for something new with safety features, Android Auto, etc. Also, the space efficiency of gen 2/3 was lost with gen 4 and most likely will be with gen 5 (although rear leg room could be a bit better than gen 4 with the slightly longer wheelbase).

We already have a Rav4 hybrid, so for our second vehicle I'm hoping the Corolla Cross hybrid comes to the States. That is a realistic possibility with Mazda and Toyota having announced that "new" SUVs will be produced at the factory they are building in Huntsville.

 

They could solve the whole thing - give us the COROLLA HYBRID WAGON. Hopefully with a full-size spare option.

But the more I look at it - it's got so much windscreen - and almost no roof. Image the Tropical Sun beating in on that glass?

The Gen 4 grill was one of the best parts of the car

Notably your second photo is a Lexus probably designed by the same Toyota designers.

 

Prime is the name used only in the North American markets. Prius PHV for other markets. If the Gen5 is all PHV except base level trim, then of course it can not be called Prius PHV. They have to call the entire line-up Prius or something else. Prime is already used for Rav4 in NA.

BTW, I have been window shopping for my next car, hopefully a BEV but may end up as PHEV. 2022 is still a long way to go, but I may wait till the Gen5 Prius comes out. lol Currently, l can't find any car that is more economical than PP. Starting to see 2021 Rav4 Prime in stock at local dealers, but there is no incentives or discount. Even with a federal tax credit of $7500, it is well over $30K compared to ~$18K for PP for me. Not worth it for a bit more cargo space and EV range, IMHO.

 

I don't know WHAT BMW was thinking. The kidney grill is one of the most iconic, classic, and beautiful grills in the business. And then they got Audi and Lexus envy and turned it into the current monstrosity.

 

Doesn't look like we'll see TSS 2.5 either, just the 2.0 version, which is not much changed since my late year 2017 Prius 2.

I think I like a "roundish" headlight to some of the awkward looking ones which seem to stretch a narrow lens ½ way back to the front door:

 

I am used to seeing them with yellow clouded headlights. They must have used the cheapest plastic for lenses.

 

It's sun & affects all which park a lot in the sun. I was looking at a TOYOTA and a MERC the other day with very badly faded lights.

Probably only solution - the old glass ones.

 

Yes. Glass sealed beams, rectangular or round: $20 apiece back in the day.

 

Nothing cheap about them. $300 each to replace. I have not figured out how to start a class action suit since lights are a safety device and they are pretty useless when dimmed to 1/2 original output. It's not like they did not know that they would turn yellow. My 2002 started to do that in 2010.

I remember them cheaper than that - about $7 for a 7" Sealed beam.

 

What I did on a couple of my older vehicles was buy third party housings off eBay.
