There is already a sticky for this topic: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-.../18551-check-your-cabin-air-filter-today.html
I wish there was a way to make my "check your filter" thread pop to the top of the thread list once a month...everyone needs to see those photos and learn to check and change their own filter....to avoid just this kind of thing.
lol, didnt find the mouse but I was kind of scared when I reached in to pull all the debris from the air filter compartment.
I'm serious...all that stuff (looking like dryer lint) on top of the filter didn't get there randomly. Well, if you don't see any mouse poop on the filter, you might be OK.
Patrick's right. That's mouse debris. You can see the seeds it brought in for food and the shredded insulation for nest materials. That stuff did not blow in by itself.
Actually, since the rodents were in the dash area, I'd also check the engine air filter for shredded wheat and other breakfast items they may have left behind.
I did check the engine air filter and it did have some shredded nuts or whatever they eat under the filter portion of the airbox. I guess thats what you get for buying a low mile car for its year. a 2006
LOL, too funny! I always wanted some more pets And, If I get tired of them Ill just stick my cat in the car for a few days. After cleaning and replacing the filter I kind of feel bad for destroying their comfortable living arrangements.
Yes, they do chew through your wiring....someone wrote somewhere...that wiring on these cars is soy-based, which attracts the mice even more....is that true? Sticking a cat in the car doesn't work, at least with my cat and car. All he does is stand on the dash and "yowl." It doesn't scare the mice and eventually gets on my nerves. I am also scared that he will eventually get mad and start to shred my seats....
Has anyone had to replace their oxygen sensor after being told by the service department at the dealer that rodents had chewed up all of the wiring on it? I had that happen at about 35K miles and then again at 50K miles. I was suspicious the second time. The woman who deals with customers at the service department came out and told me that although my check engine light was not coming on, it would be very soon because once again "rodents had chewed up the wiring of my O2 sensor I have owned scores of cars over the last 55 years, not garage kept, and I never had rodents chew on my car. And the cost at my dealer for an O2 sensor installed is close to $500. I told her I would wait until the check engine light came on to have it replaced as I only drive about 10 miles a week with the pandemic. CyberpriusII, you may have explained my problem when you wrote "that wiring on these cars is soy-based, which attracts the mice even more....is that true?" It may be. I wish Toyota would put a sheath around any exposed wiring such as that on my oxygen sensor. It's at the very bottom of the car in the middle with its wiring completely exposed to nibbling rodents. And I don't have a garage. I decided to trade my 2013 Prius Four in for a 2021 Prius Limited in Wind Chill Pearl with Aero Side Splitters, Body Side Moldings, Illuminated Door Sills and Door Edge Guards added by a service tech at the dealer. I got a good deal, but they did deduct $450 from my trade due to the O2 sensor. I think that was fair. They showed me the wiring underneath and it was a mess. I really loved my li'l 2013 Barcelona Red Prius Four with a sunroof. My 2021 Limited also has a Sunroof that comes with the convenience package. I really loved my Barcelona Red Prius Four with a nice sunroof. But I love my new 2021 just as much. I'll post some photos soon when the snow clears up in Kansas. I'd like to hear other comments about soy based exposed wiring because that is about the only explanation that makes some sense to me now. And I still don’t have a garage.
