I am about to get a new Prime. I used to own a Gen4. Does the Prime have a DTE? if yes, does it include the miles you could drive in EV mode? and did anybody calculate how DTE is off or "stingy" with its estimates? On my Gen4 DTE was about 15% off.
DTE on Prime is for the gas-only HV mode. For example, if you fill your tank and DTE shows 540miles, but if you charge your traction battery every day and only drive EV mode. After 1000 miles on EV mode drive you still have a full tank of gas, and your DTE stays at 540miles. Thus if your drive includes wall charged EV mode, DTE has no meaning. It does not include that EV range at all.
What @Salamander_King said. My most recent fill up (in August) gave a DTE of 560 miles. That was 3,060 miles ago. It probably would have been pretty close to accurate if I didn't keep plugging in the darn thing.
Yeah my DTE is pretty "poor" because the only time I run the engine is when I'm just short of the EV range to get to my destination so it runs the warm-up cycle and thus fuel efficiency is relatively poor. I also only run it on highway runs so it's probably based on highway mpg instead of city mpg which we know is lower in a Prius.
