The Hybrid batteries in my 05 Prius are in the red triangle stage. It hasn't been running in probably 8-10 months now. Is there a way to trick the engine into running or at least cranking over to keep things moving till I can get new batteries into it? Thanks!
Oh, I see you're in Ohio... If the hybrid battery has enough power to start the engine you can force charge the battery, but once the battery can't start the engine and you have failed modules you need to pull the pack and charge up each of the still healthy 8v batteries. There's 28 of them and one of these inexpensive chargers and an old laptop power supply for it will allow you to charge everything up: iMAX B6 V2 Changer There's lots of youtube videos on how to do all that...
$30 available from many places... Make sure you get Version2, it's way better than Version 1. Power supply not included!
That's the wrong one, that's version one. It has a power supply inside it which causes overheating... Version one also has a really slow processor and less power so it's easier to overcharge/ruin a module with those ones.
Try this place or a similar place like it: SKYRC IMAX B6 V2 60W 6A Professional Balance Charger/Discharger
nope... In this pic below you can see 3 of the new 80w V2 ones that are almost twice as fast and 4 of the old 60w ones that run too hot because power supply is inside the case and have slow processors which heat modules up too much.
Nope, that's version1 of the one that doesn't have the power supply... And I spoke in error when I said 80w, I meant 60w... Specifically: V1 = 50w / 5amp V2 = 60w / 6amp I can't stand Amazon's monopoly and the way they steal everyone's business and act like their own government by taxing/financially punishing people who don't do business with them exclusively. They need to be broken up under existing anti-trust laws. But you seem to be determined to buy from them so here's a couple links that work: https: //http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Professional-Battery-Balance-Charger-Discharger/dp/B071JPQ7Z1/ https: //http://www.amazon.com/SKYRC-Balance-Charger-Batteries-Charging/dp/B0822RM9VJ/r
I mean I'll buy from anywhere as long as I'm not getting ripped off. Amazon was the first place I went to to make sure I knew what I was looking for
You might need a decent charger to repair your HV battery but you have to figure out what exactly is going on first. I can't think of any means to "trick" the ecu- all the voltages have to be even both just sitting there and under load. You can disconnect 12V power to reset the HV battery ecu but if the block voltages are really that far apart it won't try to start. You need to SAFELY disassemble the battery case and measure voltages at the modules directly. Then disconnect the HV battery ecu connectors and check for corrosion or damage to the harness. If block 3 and 4 are really that low compared to the others, charging probably ain't gonna help. Will likely need modules replaced, and that brings up the whole balancing the modules and having different modules throw codes again (whack a mole). Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
