Actually a triangular shape can be stronger structurally. Depends on the vector of the forces.

Does it seal better than a circular gasket? Have you ever seen triangular pistons or triangular O-rings?

Sorry about the delay in responding. I ended up taking it to a local dealer. They found a wire that had been cut and runs great. NOW I’ve been trying to figure out why it won’t blow hot air to defrost. I’ve got the dash torn apart and going to put a scope in to see if the blend door is functioning.

Thank you. Picked up the gen4 engine the other day. Car is safely lifted in the garage at all for corners. Will start tearing the old engine out tomorrow. Hopefully things go smoothly as after 10 months at home, the wife goes back to work next week so I don't even have a car if I don't get this working. Timing... Anyway, will update with progress.

Just wanted to thank @Ragingfit and everyone else contributing to this thread. I'm another thankful 2010 Prius owner who was encouraged by your posts and videos to swap my oil burning engine with almost new 2018 Prius engine.

    Thank you! :)

Making progress tearing this thing apart today, but just wanted to verify that you can't use the Gen4 intake side of things. I know the exhaust won't work, but was just hoping to avoid the hours of cleaning the intake manifold now that i see how bad it is.

Is this thread now becoming the one where we're posting our progress? LOL
I am spending time before work and a little bit after work on my Engine Swap, and I am at the point now where I only have the fuel connector and exhaust bolts to remove and I can lift the engine out and begin putting in the new one. I've just given up on fiddling with make-shift fuel line disconnect tools and will just goto Autozone and waste money on buying a tool I may never use again :(

Does anyone know what size/kind of socket is needed for the flywheel bolts?

A regular 12-point socket would do. That's what I used. Can't remember the size though.

@Ragingfit might know, if there’s a socket especially designed. One of the last videos in the engine swap series here:

Swapping in a Gen 4 Prius' 2ZR Engine into the Prius v | PriusChat

He discusses swapping the flywheel, loctite and torque values. Can’t recall if mentioned a particular socket.

I’ll look through repair manual tomorrow; think I’ve already made an excerpt of the flywheel install, but can’t remember off-hand if socket is specd.

Thanks guys. I watched that video last night and took note of the values. Just going to run out in an hour and grab a full 12 point socket set to make life easy. Appreciate the assistance.

Hey guys, I have a question that I haven't seen asked/answered and wanted to double check before cutting the line.

So in the video, the small reservoir tank to thermostat hose is cut and teed off to the throttle body. This appears to be working for all. But I'm looking at the hose routing on my gen 4 and that extra throttle body hose that we don't have actually tees off from the small water pump to bottom egr cooler hose. Not sure if this makes a difference in any way, maybe getting air out of the system. But i did want to at least mention it to see if anyone else noticed this or if I'm just wasting time.

Also 14mm 12 point socket for anyone wondering about flywheel bolts.

Yes, Use the Gen 3 intake and exhaust unless you have LOTS of spare time to work out the differences.
Your old car wants to see the old sensors and they fit in your car.

I'm not sure what lines you are looking at but this is a fairly good look at how I think the coolant hoses are on the Gen 3, the Gen 4, and how to address the differences. Hope it helps and I hope I'm right but I'm not always right.

Thanks for the reply Ragingfit. I'm just going to go with the hose you recommend and everyone else is using. It works and that's all that matters. Cut the block tab and dry fitted the egr cooler today before finally getting the new engine mounted in tonight. Hopefully tomorrow the pace picks up and I'll have this running by Saturday.

On a side note, I don't know how my car was actually running as my egr cooler was 100% blocked. 3 day soak hasn't helped at all. Had to sneak into the manual car wash and power blast it just to get some flow. Probably would have been worth buying a new one tbh, but too late for that now.
