Just a quick and hopefully easy couple of questions: does the 2007 Prius have mechanical or hydraulic valves? Can anyone point me to a link that shows how to adjust the valves? I'll be pleased to answer any questions you may have. Thanks so much. Shel

Not to just measure your valve clearance, if that's all you want to do. But if you want to do anything about it, including just to determine what sizes of replacement lifters you need to order, yes, the camshafts come out.
Can cams come out without timing chain removal? I’m thinking* yes, there’s enough slack. * more like “praying”...
I think so, if you relieve the chain tensioner. There's an access plug for that, with a hex recess, part-way down the chain cover, in a place you can see it or feel it but not both at the same time, with the engine in the car. Maybe there's better access in Gen 2. With my Gen 1, I experimented once to find out if I could just get a hex bit into that recess (never mind a wrench or ratchet handle to turn it with). I succeeded, got the bit in and back out again, with only a little blood on my hand.
solid lifters. Why are you asking whats the issue? be aware its a very very loud valve train unless you use some really good oil with a zddp pack in it. If your using 20w weight oil it will be really loud. How many miles on the car? How has the oil been maintained? What kind what viscosity what brand?
Does someone actually need to adjust their valves? On Toyota's cam over bucket/shim design, I can't say that I have ever had to do that in 30 years. I used to check clearance per the maintenance schedule but stopped after a few years because it was always in spec. My 87 camry went almost 300k with the factory shims.
