the cam slipped I put the colored gears back on the marks but no I'm not entirely sure if that's where it belongs does anybody have some pics of where the harmonic balancer should be or does it matter also the top cans are lined up with the chain markings along with the bottom chain on the dot in the lower crankshaft gear

The key (pun intended) is getting the colored links on marks....see video below.
Once you have it timed the harmonic balancer is keyed to only fit one way on the crankshaft.

I don't mean this in a derobatory way... Did you read up on, or watch any videos on how to
install the timing chain before starting this job? :)
After everything aligned, and you've released the tensioner, rotate the engine 720 degrees.
2 complete turns. All the timing marks should line up again. I'm not sure if the colored links will
or not, but it doesn't matter as long as the marks do.

Just take your time, and go slow...

The colored links won't, not after two crank turns. You will eventually return to all-the-pieces-lining-up again (assuming the timing is right) but it takes on the order of a few dozen crank turns, or about the ninth or tenth time you see the colored chain links go by.

The pictures of the cam sprockets show the links in the right place. I believe if the crank pulley/balancer is removed, you should be able to get a shot in through that hole that shows the colored link and the dot on the crank sprocket. That photo isn't included upthread, and that's the piece I don't trust. The photo of the crank pulley does not show it at TDC, at least assuming the light-colored spot on its edge is the ignition timing mark.

Seems to be pretty hard to see in there past the oil seal. My bad. (Maybe I was thinking of pics somebody took before installing the seal.)

I've seen the mark before the timing cover is on.
That's why you should turn it over, before the cover is in place.

Ah, yes, that does look like the yellow link.

I was expecting it to be more at the three-o-clock position. Was the camera just held at a funny angle?

is it possible to have the timing chain on the link mark but be off by a tooth due to too much slack on

Need to pull the timing cover again. Looks like you are a tooth off at the crank.

My guess is that your marks were lined up, but you left slack on the wrong side of the chain drive. All of the slack needs to be on the side with the tensioner.

    Am I correct in this?

Ok then with cylinder 1 at TDC (closest to the cahin)

the exhaust dot should be straight up and the intake dot should be at 39 degrees (how exactly do you know where that is?????) assuming you get it right then the crank prior to taking the cover off should have the crank pully at 0 with the marking on the cover.
once cover is off like I said now the last colored link should have the chain taught and lined up with the only link (no slack) to the dot on the gear. ALL Slack on the left and then you should get the chain tensioner to release and crank a couple of revolutions to ensure things line up again

    I my process correct here?
