How much are you asking for this module? How do you control it from the front and what wireless controller can work with it? I would like to keep the fan working for 5 minutes to cool the battery after shutting down.

Hi Firstflight, is this mod still available. I live in the tropics and can definitely use this?

The gen2, and gen3 fan motors are completely different. The gen2 uses a simple permanent magnet brushed motor while the gen3 uses a 14 volt BLDC (brush less DC) motor with it's own voltage regulators, and control chip for PWM, and frequency control built into the motor. The motor uses a similar 3 phase mechanism to the MG's. As such it is much more efficient than the brushed version only requiring 1.7 amps at full speed.
Supplying it with less than 12 volts or a PWM supply could damage the internal components.

Thanks BritPrius for the information, didn't know that level of difference existed between the Gen 2 and Gen 3 HV battery blower fan....do you know about the TCH blower fans, from your description, it appears to be a brushed motor?

In any case, is there anyplace I can get the mod for Gen 2 .. My wife's Prius is a Gen 2?

One other question I have is "can I drive the cooling fan on gen 3 using Scan gauge ok"?

It is ok to control the fan on the gen3 with scan gauge.
I do not know which motor is fitted to the TCH, but the simple way to tell is that the brushed motor will have 2 wires going to the motor. reversing the supply reverses the motor direction.
The BLDC motor will have 4 wires going to it. It also has a small (about 1" x 1/2") label on the cast aluminium backplate (about 4" in dia + 3 mounting lugs) saying 14 volt Shinano Kenshi. Co. Ltd. This backplate is the heatsink for the motor drive circuitry. The stater on these motors is the wound component at the center while the rotor is a magnetic drum surrounding the stater. Reversing the supply to these motors will burn out the circuitry.

May I know if you still working on the project ? it is interesting cause I plan to have to fan powered up max all time ( Malaysia have a hot climate ) and triggered by Temp sensor ( I plan to keep it at 30'c - 35'c )
