Hello everyone; Not sure if this is out there yet or not, but there has been a spree of thefts going on around the US. Prius Gen 2 catalytic converters are being stolen while parked outsite. If you hear any loud metal scrapping noises check your prius and call the cops. Happened to me, by the time i got to the phone thieves left with mine.. I am now having to spend $1000 to get it replaced!
What's your location? Sorry to hear about the theft. If you're not in a CA emission state, you can replace it with a $120 cat assembly and be good to go. I've replaced all the ones in my family to head off any thefts.
Fortunately I am in NC and I am looking for the part right now so i can get it done this week. But when I 1st googled it, i saw the 1600+ price tag and almost lost my s**t... but kept looking and a new after market one for me is about 200 +tax, so going to try and find it at the local junk. (PS feel bad for people in CA)
Lol, new trend? Is this more of your hydrogen car marketing effort? If not many provide a link to back up your highly questionable claim of a rise in gas siphoning from cars?
We've been talking about this for more than a year on here. There's lots to learn and reflect on about it... Doing a simple google search with keywords "PriusChat catalytic converter theft" would of answered your initial question. But I get it... People want to talk rather than listen. Regardless, if you let us know what part of the country you live in, you might find someone on here who lives near you who will help you deal with this for a much better price than you'll find elsewhere.

Those of us who are on PriusChat daily to help people mostly make use of the pre-existing 15 years worth of daily posts on here to help answer questions so as to keep the information better organized. But yes, when it comes to newbies on PriusChat, they don't realize that they're un-original and their issue has already been thoroughly discussed ten times over and that a simple Google search will give them an answer much faster than waiting on all us who are here to help people every day.
Great... so how about you let people that can and know how to help... help and you can go on with whatever uselessness you try to entertain yourself with... If you can't be bothered to read things because... "you are soooo.... great at helping others"... just go be useless elsewhere. Should have installed that alarm system when I first thought of it back in 07.. but may fault for listening to other useless people such as yourself. Well .. you live you learn... at least I have.
They stated in the 2nd post on this thread they are in NC. The previous owner had to have the cat replaced years ago with an aftermarket, otherwise I was going to sale my own cat and get the $140 amazon special. California and New York require them to be the expensive OEM replacements. Good enough reason not to live in either of those states, but I understand it is a way to push electric cars (which we need to do, anyhow). Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
