After 250,000 miles (Update: now 293,000), should I just drive it 'til it drops?

That amount of time and mileage on your Prius is amazing, I just got mine 06 with 195,000 miles 7 months ago and I feel confident in the Prius engineering to make it very far for my commutes. Built like a tank.

Prius after accident 01012021 (2) resized.jpg OK Here we go. Little Prius has now passed the 400,000 mile mark. New Year's Day 2021. A great start. Hit a deer on the way to work this morning. No damage to the frame, engine compartment, electrical, or steering/suspension. Hood opens and closes fine as it remains in proper alignment. Should be an easy fix with the right parts as I have working knowledge of auto body assembly/repair. Car still drives and tracks fine. Looking to buy Rt fender, Rt HID headlamp assembly, and front bumper cover. Although the car currently is being used to drive 150 miles daily, my new Rav 4 Prime was delivered and picked up at the beginning of the week. I'd like to keep this car around to do local errands so I don't have to worry about parking lot dings. Still running on the original Cat and Traction battery. Can't kill this thing!

First picture picture is after the accident: Second picture is put together for the ride home. Prius rigged for the drive home 01012021 (2) cropped and resized.jpg

Yup! Easy job. Technically, I could get away with just a headlight assembly, shape the metal and repair the bumper as I do have the two large pieces that broke off...

This HID headlight comes stripped. Looking for the whole assembly "plug and play" as some of my connectors were damaged as well as the case to the ballast. Will be snagging a fender as well. Found one in Rhode Island a great price! Looks like I will be taking a road trip on Saturday!

I’m in a similar situation. A damn deer! The car is a 2004 and has 226k runs perfectly, battery in good shape, and doesn’t burn any oil. I couldn’t junk her.

they only made this color for two years so it’s been a challenge locating the “new” parts.

Going to pick up the headlamp (HID), fender tomorrow.
Probably making a road trip this weekend for bumper and good.

Anyone remember $20 sealed-beam headlights? Maybe don’t rival today’s candlepower, but...

And shock absorber mounted steel bumpers (real bumpers), with a broad black rubber facing.

    LOL
My second car was a 1969 Toyota Corolla 2 speed automatic I bought used in Canada. When that little 1209cc engine idled, the corners of the front bumper vibrated up and down.

It ended up as the filling of a freeway sandwich on Hwy 401. When somebody passes the drive shaft through the broken rear window, the car is finished. I had no major injuries though. My eyeglasses flew out the window and were never found though.

The red was my color of choice! Had to wait from July 2004 until November 2005 for a Prius back then! Picked ours up 11-05-2005. I have the same sentiment: why part it out if it is still running well? For a few hundred dollars, I can get this back together. You've got it all ready for those "new" parts! Post the "after" pictures when it's done! Thanks for sharing!

I thought about liking this, but it's such a bummer! Glad you're OK, though.

Yikes!! When a guy hit us from behind going 60 mph faster than we were (60 vs 0), it took about a half hour to find my glasses. One of the deputies (yeah, it was quite a scene - 3 deputies and a trooper), found them in the back under a pile of broken glass and other debris.

Neat! I do love the red, even though it’s hard to keep clean. “Miss Ruby” was built in last 2003. I believe 11/03.

I’ll be sure to post back! You keep us updated as well!

At the time I was still living with my parents and my Dad was my insurance agent. They were trying to claim I was driving without my required glasses. My Dad’s response was that I always wear them and he knew I left the house that morning wearing them.
