The one thing that I could really use, out of all the 2020/2021 improvements are the extendable sun visors. Has anyone checked to see if that is a part that could be ordered from Toyota and exchanged for the existing ones on my 2017?
Funny I didn’t even really notice my 2020 had them until I read about it in here about the differences between models. I don’t think I ever needed them? Weird. You should check oemvehicleparts.com - they usually have good prices
Thanks. I checked their website and they list the 2020 left side visor in grey or beige for $61.46. I also checked to 2018 visor and it has a different part number for $55.38. Looks good except all of their 2020 left side visors are listed as for a car with sun roof. Since our Primes don't come with a sun roof and they don't describe or have a photo of the visor, I am hesitant to deal with them.
Someone here mentioned that they got them and they fit fine on their older Prime. However, I sat in a new Prime with the extensions and the driver's side extension left big gaps at the top and rear. They are prettier than my aftermarket add-ons, but not nearly as effective.
IMHO, it's not worth having the extender. I really don't know what they are used for. I never look in the direction the extender covers while I am driving. And as a general sunshade, it is not long or wide enough as Jerry said. I had 2017 PP and now have 2020 PP, so I know the difference. To me, both function the same. There are a few occasions when I have to drive directly into either the rising or setting sun at the horizon. But in those cases, no visor will do any good, since the sun is directly in front of me at the level of my eye looking at the road. At my location and direction of travel for my commuting time, this situation happens several days in a year.
The extender really becomes worthwhile when you are headed north just before sunset on an 8 hour drive. As the sun sinks it eventually reaches the point where it's hitting the left eye from an angle. Not both, just the left. That's one of those strange situations that have been known to give me a migraine. I've solved the problem for a single day by putting a clean McDonalds bag over the end of the visor while it's down along the side window. As long as the window is rolled up it's not a problem. I have spare bags in the flap behind the passenger seat. I'll be looking into the one from the factory. Dan
I need mine almost every day going to and from work during those times of year when the sun is low and I'm going north or south. Without the extender, it's like an arc welder beside me right between the doorpost and the end of the visor.
That's the thing I don't understand. The extender only extends to the right side of the visor for a driver. As I commented, I have seasonal days when the sunrise and sunset happen during my commuting time. But on those days, the sun is directly in front of me right at the horizon. In those cases, no visor will prevent glare, with an extender or not. If the sun is coming in angle (from the right of the visor, then it would be high enough I can't see it directly if I am looking straight ahead.
Before I had the 2020, I noticed someone on here posted something similar to these, which actually worked fine for the most part: Here's the old thread actually: Sun Visor Extender - any recommendations or hacks | PriusChat There are more fancy ones now like these:
These look useful. One minor problem is that they will cover up the built-in mirror. I can live with that, though.
Somehow you missed the main point. The extender isn't really meant for use in the front. If you swing the regular visor around to block the sun from blinding you from the left, it only helps if the sun is way forward in the window. But there's still a huge gap. The extender on the new visor only covers part of the gap.
Oh, I see. You are using it as a sun blocker from the left side window. I don't think I have ever encountered a situation I needed to swing the visor to the left side. lol
Well, with all those primordial forests up there, I'm not surprised. We're in the city so most of the trees are gone now and even out in the country it alternates between forrest and pasture.
