Unfortunately, no real news there - the article was posted back in April, and the rumors have been flying all summer about what the next generation of Prius will have. Unfortunately, there isn't really anything to get excited about until Toyota comes out and gives us a real idea of what the specs will be.

Thanks for the info. I'm new here and just joined yesterday even though i've been surfing this site for some time now. I don't have a prius unfortunately, but my dad does and my two aunts are going to both buy one in the coming months. (y)

I do like the line about Japanese full economy rateings not necessarily matching US driving styles. The Japanese "EPA" numbers are even more inflated than the EPA numbers so it would be a marketing blunder to advertise with them here.

Again, I'm tired to tell Toyota's target for 2009 Prius is 40km/L Japanese 10-15 mode test and it can be converted to about EPA 62mpg combined mileage.

Is it the driving style/attitude over there? I can't imagine it's the terrain haha.

Japanese people like such record holders/titles. :)
Yes. All Japanese roads are downhills.

Anyway, we have more than 200,000 Prius drivers and only 39 drivers (42 now  ) are spot-lighted as 1000 mile-club members, it's only 0.02%.

The plug in 100mpg prius is already available here!

    http://www.goingreen.co.uk/store/content/prius/

"The Toyota Plug-In Prius offers up to 130 mpg, more than two and a half times the mpg of the standard Prius; 100 mpg at a constant 60 mph; up to 30 miles in electric (emission free mode), thirty five times that of the standard Prius; close to 1,000 mile range on a single tank of fuel; and a top speed of 115 mph."

"Technical information - the battery system is lithium ion phosphate 9kWh 230 volts nominal 40Ah producing 27 times more energy from a battery only seven times larger, with 400Nm torque from the electric motor. Both the battery and the battery management system are replaced with the new battery taking over both the hybrid electric (HEV) and electric (EV) functions. A new interface allows the Toyota Hybrid System (THS) to work seamlessly wit the battery management system. The State Of Charge (SOC) operates to 80% discharge (DOD) and at 20% the battery returns to normal hybrid mode.

Pricing - commercially produced conversions will be available from late 2006 and cost in the region of £8,000 plus VAT."

At an extra £8000 plus tax I calculate I will have to drive in excess of 90,000 miles to break even over my standard Prius! (thats using UK gas prices and UK gallons).

It's just another aftermarket conversion company... they're sprouting up all over the place. What we're all waiting for is an OEM plug in Prius offered by Toyota.
