Aloha and Happy Holidays! Going to do the spin on oil filter conversion on my 2010 Prius over the holidays. https://www.armstrongfamilyblog.com/armstrongracing/the-2016-toyota-2zr-engine-oil-filter-conversion This mod uses the 90915-YZZF2 oil filter for the conversion, which I believe is the current filter in the newer Prius models with spin on filters (as well as numerous other Toyota engines). While shopping online for a filter, I noticed the 90915-YZZF1 filter, which appears to be identical except it's taller. Looked around for info and there is data that suggests it is interchangeable with the YZZF2. If this bigger filter fits, wouldn't more filter area and more oil capacity be a good thing? Is there any downside to using a bigger oil filter? Has anyone tried this? Cheers! PEH
the bigger one might not fit; I asked Mendel once about it & he got some doubts (he posted a picture where you can see a bulge protruding from the engine) /
Safest would be to stick with stock filter, the shorter one. I think the longer one might be specd for larger vehicles, say Camry, RAV4 and others? Clearance to aforementioned engine block bulge will be reduced. Maybe ok still but not worth the uncertainty?
Toyota PN #15620-40030 is the aluminum equivalent to the factory plastic housing. I have procured one of these myself, and in all measurements that matter, it is an exact match. However, you have to make sure to get the plug that goes in it as well, as they are sold separately. I have pictures of it along side the plastic one on my page. For those reading this post that have not bought the spin on adapter, the metal cap conversion is only $25, plus shipping if you order it online.
Thanks for the input. Both filters appear to have the same bypass pressure, size and flow rating. I think I’ll have a longer one on hand when I put the new plate on to try, if it does not fit I’ll use the short one and give the other one to friend with a Camry. Will report back results.
FINALLY put on the spin on oil filter adapter and am trying out the larger F1 filter as well. Looks like clearance is ok. Will watch like a hawk!
