After a 8-9 min drive, picked up my order, waited in park mode 2 minutes or so, then as soon as I started to move, the engine started to rattle and shake. I thought it ll pass after a few seconds but it hasn't. I pulled over and charged the hybrid battery and was able to get home with hazard lights. No engine lights on The s.plugs changed in summer ( no egr cleaning that time) Is it EGR do you think? I also consider misfiring but this never happened so far. Only thing I can say that it sometimes rattles on low speeds for a second or so Checked the oil, it's fine and same as before Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Yes, this sound but doesnt go off. I turned the car on after hours to park in different spot. This time engine light came on I remember just one time it knocked in a cold day and never happened until today Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
You need to read codes and find out what cylinder is misfiring. Could be a coil or plug unless you are also losing coolant. Then its head gasket for sure. I would not drive it like this.
Just got an obd2 and read the code, which is cylinder 3 & 4 misfire. Checked the coolant, which is at the same level but needs a look while cylinders working I guees, to see a change ( if there is) in real time? It is not driveable right now How can I make sure it is not the head gasket? If clogged EGR is the cause, I ll go ahead and fix it. But if it's the head gasket, I may consider getting rid of it Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
249k and I m blaming the pandemic for clogging since it's not driven enough this year. I was planning to do all deep cleaning once we move to a house with a garage but maybe the end now
If it is the headgasket consider having a low mileage used engine rebuilt. Some have had it done for 3 or 4 grand. Used car prices are through the roof right now and may stay that way as things slow down again.
Better to go ahead and clean out the EGR and intake manifold first? Or have it serviced and diagnosed just in case of blown gasket? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Leak Down test is pretty good at determining if the head gasket is leaking or not, and where it's leaking from/to.
Just wondering one more thing, could a bad or long time waited gas make an impact on this issue? Checked the last filling was on 11/17 and was gonna fill up these times. And also right after fill-up, added gumout to gas tank, not a full can (about2/3). And had 2 trips ( more than hour) within this period. I always use Philips66, a busy one around here. As a note, I used gumout multi tune to clean up fuel injector and against ethanol, not for carbon related issues Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I went ahead and filled 2 gallons gas with some octane booster to stabilize old gas which is about 40 days ago filled. Surprisingly she started perfectly without even any noise/rattle. Since it worked I wanted to go around in the neighborhood. After 4-5 min it started to stall as before, then I thought it may need full fresh gas. Filled up the gas tank but it keeps rattling/stalling. However I can say it is not as bad as the last time. Also, watched the coolant closely, no apparent leak is noticable right now. This makes me consider fuel injector option, and kinda eliminating head gasket issue. When I got home, I recorded the noise. Here it is Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Just an update, after reading so many posts and watching videos. I decided on these steps, just correct me if you see anything 1- Installing the old SC20H11 plugs since I m suspicious about the ones (sc16h11) that I installed summer, and will swap coils 3&4 to 1&2 just in case of coil issue. 2- Starting car to see what happens 3- Whether the problem solved or not, I ll take apart the intake manifold and clean it and also the EGR pipe. The car was misfiring at very low speeds too, because of clogged intake I assume 4- Replacing the manifold gasket and PCR valve 5- Rubbing throttle Cleaning EGR cooler seemed advanced to me, I m not sure If I can time for it. and never got the code p401. Would you strongly recommend doing this and also cleaning fuel injectors while the intake manifold removed? or other things Thanks
Code seems to come way too late, from what I've read here. Have you watched @NutzAboutBolts videos? Info on EGR cleaning, plus oil catch can install: Bad Flywheel | PriusChat
Yes, I watched all @NutzAboutBolts videos and downloaded them to watch the steps on-duty. Now I thought that the EGR cooler part might be easier than the video, hence the intake manifold will be out of the way. Also, do I need to follow a specific order for cleaning&re-installing of EGR cooler, pipe, and intake manifold
I guess moisture is the main issue, when I got the coils and plugs, they were all wet. Are these coils in usable condition ? I cleaned and dried those, also did the same thing inside the engine, was wet and gunk Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
