I leaned on the drivers side armrest and the plastic under the leather broke. How easily replaced is that? Something I can do myself? thanks! John
I have seen one broken like that and thought with a bit of lateral thinking and some good glue that it could be repaired. You will need to take the whole door panel off and then you can make the call yourself as to whether you think you can repair it. The other option would be to pick up a clean replacement panel from a wrecker and replace the whole thing. Let us know what the outcome is.
Thanks for the reply! Since I have no idea how to take the door panel off my best bet is probably to not try and do it myself. Lol. How hard is to take off?
I seem to remember it wasn't that difficult. I used the section of the repair manual the detailed replacing the wing mirror. It is just two or three screws and then use a panel pry tool to pop off the rest of the panel.
Well, the armrest got worse because I didn’t take care of it fast enough. I finally took the door panel off and tried to glue it but I think it’s too far gone. It broke almost immediately. I checked eBay and found a replacement panel but they need like $75 shipping for a $60 panel. Anybody know a place in LA (wrecker?) or another place online where I can just buy a replacement door panel? 2009 Prius, gray leather. Thanks!
Door panel comes off pretty easily once you remove the handle and interior latch screw and pop odd the door mounted speaker. Have a few of the plastic pop-clips as sometimes they break. Can you post a picture of the broken part? May well be easy enough to get another panel from a junkyard, or the arm rest portion that lays on top, (if memory serves me correctly) I'll be pulling off the driver door to re-upholster the armrest...maybe all 4 if I cant get a close match to the fabric.
I think I might need a whole new panel. It’s the white plastic under the armrest. Seemed to be connected by melted plastic?
