Well, it happened to me. Stopped for lunch and when I re-started the car I had the amber brake warning light. Car seemed to brake okay, so I got it home. When I got home, I tried rebooting the car. When I depressed the brake, it sank darn near the floor, but as the car rebooted, it rose up to normal and the warning light was gone. I'd check for codes, but my reader got stolen last time my car was broken in to. Should I start saving for a $2000 repair?
Yes I would start saving for that repair. It's just a matter of time when that brake actuator actually fails. In your case, I would check the codes and possibly bleed the brakes, see if bleeding the brakes helps it (and making sure your fluid is not low)
Reading the codes by the light-blink method is easy and cheap, and if anybody breaks into your car to steal the tool for that, they get a short piece of wire.
