I guess you did not get the subtle humor...in that a side effect, in an old person, that takes 30 years to show itself is not a big deal

I'm guessing here that there is an implicit idea that a virus that was blocked from reproducing in a given host is thus less able to be transmitted to another host because it doesn't exist in a sizable quantity.

We do know how to prevent virus transmission...it is called a mask or a HEPA filter.

Aha! Thank you for clarifying this. I guess I am not much behind. In 30 years, I will definitely have other things to worry about if I am still alive then.

you can't end an argument if you can't have the last word. especially after telling your opponent to 'just stop'

The argument never starts if you never see the post to begin with ;).

Approaching 3 years on my ignore user list and still seems to be appropriate:).

Just wish the posts didn't get out of the "c" forums:cool:.

But I'll control what I can control (y).

Here is what could be a "silver bullet" for preventing SARS-CoV-2 transmission and break the chain of COVID-19 spread.
Oral drug blocks SARS-CoV-2 transmission, Georgia State biomedical sciences researchers find | EurekAlert! Science News

Yeah, the paper is describing the results on the animal model, but if it works in humans, it can really be a breakthrough. The good news is that the drug MK-4482/EIDD-2801 is currently in phase II/III clinical trials already.

I have not read much about MK-4482/EIDD-2801 (Molnupiravir) development until today. But the drug was originally discovered for its effectiveness in preventing the influenza virus infection. It is a pro-drug consisting of a nucleoside analogue that competes effectively RNA based viral replication. I have to read up on the current clinical trial protocol for this drug, but it seems the drug is administered to patients who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 infection within 48 hours of PCR confirmation and are hospitalized with a diagnosis of COVID-19. The timing seems to be a bit later than the ideal use of the drug for preventing the initial spreading of the virus. I don't know what pharmacokinetic characteristics this drug has once taken internally. If it's anti-viral effectiveness lasts only a short time, using it prophylactically before the infection may be difficult.
