Just as every model of car tends to grow in size w a new generation rebuild, mobile devices do the same. However, if the platform in the center console that is intended for the qi charging doesn't grow, it may not fit some of the newer phones / phablets out there. There is scattered discussion on so-and-so model of phone fitting or not but no designated tool or database. Yes, we've seen discussion of thick phone cases hampering its ability to wirelessly charge, but if the naked phone doesn't fit in the space, it's a no-brainer for me. Yes, I know I get more charging efficiency out of the physical USB compared to wireless but those USB slots are typically reserved for passengers who are actually viewing their mobile devices while I just want mine to charge and relay conversations / hands-free messages. If the physical platform Toyota designed for qi charging is of the same dimensions as that in the prime and other models, this may prove useful for more than just us gen 4 folks. I don't even know if Toyota has incorporated this qi charging tool in other models so perhaps this may be helpful for other Toyota owners. Ultimately, this thread could serve as or feature a central spreadsheet/database so we don't have to search through multiple before upgrading our phones. I'm guessing that most of us upgrade our mobile devices more often than we upgrade our cars, but I suppose I could be wrong. Please reply w your current (and/or prior) mobile device model and whether it fits or NOT in your gen 4 vehicle. The goal is to capture as many mobile device models so, pls share your data even if it's not your phone. At the very least, it'll be neat to see how many split iOS/android households there are among us! Although I'm trying to decide btwn upgrading to the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus vs S20 Plus (not likely the S20 Ultra), I must first ensure that either one fits! The question of whether I can live without the S20's physical earbud jack while possibly enjoying 5G capability is another matter. As a reference point, I can share that the Samsung S8 and the iPhone XR DO fit and wirelessly charge Thanks in advance
I thought that I wouldn't have been able to adapt to the lack of an earbud jack also but all you need is a decent Bluetooth headset and you should be fine. I use the Samsung galaxy earbuds and it's pretty good for the price.
The wireless charging is so slow in the Prius, I don't think this should be a consideration in your decision. I would get the best phone for your other needs and invest in a plug in quick charger or a different faster wireless pad for your car. I wish there was an easy way to upgrade the pad in the 2016 to something that worked better.
+1. I placed a rubberized tray on my Qi charger to contain small items so they don't roll or slide out of the charger since it's too slow to be of use. It's also too low to be practical for using Google Maps or other map apps.
I purchased the official Toyota leatherette tray to cover my Qi charger as soon as I got the car and its far more useful.
iPhone 12 Pro Max. I think without a case, it barely fits but it doesn’t charge. With a case, it does not fit at all.
