I have absolutely loved my 2017 Prius Prime Advanced until just before 60,000 mile service and the voice recognition stopped working. The dealer tried an update, then a reboot (cost me $55 since not under warranty anymore. Then they replaced the microphone (no charge to me) - nothing worked. Toyota Tech came in and said SD card needs to be replaced and it’s $1000. To me that is outrageous! The dealer is looking for another car with an SD card to pull and try in my car to see it that is really the issue. I really don’t want to pay that much - ideas?
strangely, someone posted something very similar to this recently. not sure what the outcome was, but i wonder if there's a defect somewhere
Highly outrageous. On a recent thread about the nav system, someone posted a link to a Toyota website where the card was available for about $275 or something. Which is STILL outrageous.
Does the microphone work for phone calls? Try putting the touchscreen into diagnostic mode and doing the microphone check there. See the attached pdf for the relevant procedure from techinfo. There's also a test for the SD card.
What is this SD card they speak of? The only SD card I know that is replaceable is for Navi, but that does not cost $1000. The voice recognition on my PRIME never worked from day 1. Not a mechanical problem, but the software (or implementation?) was so bad, that it never understood what I was saying and never performed the way I wanted the car to act. It was not worth a penny for me to make it working, so I never used the function Day2 on till this day.
Resolution of issue for all of you interested in what happened. The dealer found an SD from another Prius Prime and put it in my car. Everything worked so they determined it was the SD card. Then they put the SD card for my car in the system and everything worked! Hmm...when I went to pick up the car this morning, I requested that I be reimbursed for the reboot that they charged me for since that wasn’t the issue. Good news is they are reimbursing me AND the Nav system works fine now.
A few weeks ago the microphone in my 2019 Prius stopped working. I could hear callers. They couldn't hear me. The microphone also wouldn't allow me to train or access voice recognition. I took it into the dealer for regular service today. I explained that I read online that it might be a software issue. The tech found a new software update, installed it, the microphone is working. The car is still under warranty. There was no charge.
That's great news. In the 3 years I had my 2017 Prime, I never had any issues with the mic or voice recognition. Remembering the correct phrases, now that's different.
