So I got my 2007 Touring model with option 3, love it but was regretting not getting gps. I emailed my dealer/saleswoman and she states that they can not "activate" it like I thought they could. Now she is not a service person so i'm having a hard time believing Toyota wont take my money to turn gps on, I mean I have the touch screen and button for it on my steering wheel for petes sake. Am I totally incorrect in assuming this is possible?

Yeah, I really doubt you have the hardware in place that you'd need for this. She's right.

Do you mean you have the "MAP" button and Voice button on your steering wheel but did not take the navi? Normally the steering wheel does not have these buttons at all if the navi is not purchased. (?)

I tend to agree with Dragonfly, most factory options such as this are not available post-sale since they are installed when the car is built. Even if they were, the price would be considerably higher (and factory nav is already at a premium) since install labor would be involved.

Unfortunately, you are most likely out of luck unless you decide to sell your car and buy another with GPS. :(

    Sorry...

At this point, your best bet would be to get a portable unit, which would be a fraction of the cost anyway.

PS - I inquired the other day at my dealer here in Toronto how much the DVD map updates cost... C$475! Ouch!

Yes I do have the model with the map button etc on the steering wheel, and yeah I knew I'd get gouged at the dealer if they offered to install post sale. However it was a bit shocking that the dealership didn't want to take my money to do so.

No big deal the portable gps units look very nice too.

Hmmm... what happens if you press the MAP button?

I wonder if you in fact have the navi hardware and are just missing the DVD data disc (as an incredibly foolish way to "disable" the navi)? I don't know how it would react without the DVD inserted; If that is the case (which would be very strange), then perhaps you only need a DVD mapping disc.

    Just a thought... :)

Well the B Package Prius in Canada has the MAP and INFO buttons and only the C Package has the navigation system.

My 2006 came with the map button and I don't have GPS. I also don't have the nav computer under the driver seat.

I recently bought a Garmin C320 for less than $300 that is more capable than the factory GPS and costs a lot less to update the maps for. The map update for the current version (mine came with it, but if I had an older one I could buy the upgrade) is $75 US. Much less than the factory updates.

Having the GPS integrated with the MFD would be nice, but I wouldn't pay what they want for it. And if it's not an option, the seperate one works very well.

Does it really? OK then, I guess I stand corrected. ;) Sorry for misleading anyone...

There are pros and cons to both (which has been discussed to great lengths 'round these parts), but at the end of the day it comes down to whether you prefer something that is hassle-free, integrated with larger screen (than most portables) and has dead-reckoning for poor-signal areas, vs. something that is FAR less expensive, portable, and that you best hide it whenever you leave the car parked in a public area. ;)

    To each their own...

Presto, You have an INFO button? I don't and my car's identical to yours - 2005 Tideland Premium Package (B ).

And ya, it's the 2006+ models when they added bluetooth to the JBL system and thus the phone buttons.

Hmm, what about the TomTom ONE? It's in its second version (first one released in Europe last November). It's fairly good for a basic nav system although it's pricier than the Garmin C-series.

A friend of mine has a TomTom unit and he likes it a lot. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet so I can't offer any first-hand reviews.
