Got the dreaded Check Hybrid System - Stop Vehicle in a Safe Place warning while driving. I was a mile from home so I drove home. It's an old car 2013 but with just about 40K miles. I did recently top up less than half a tank as I was waiting to go to Costco this weekend. My gauge shows two pips now. Could it be a faulty gas gauge? I am going to trouble shoot by adding some gas. Could it be the 12V battery? Or inverter? Do these typically last less than 40K before dying? Bringing the car into a mechanic tomorrow morning to check on the life of the 12V. But can someone quickly give me some trouble shooting tips and educate me before on this issue before a mechanic tries to sell me on repairing or changing something out? Many thanks!
It will most likely be low or irregular cell module voltages in your hybrid battery pack. It has nothing to do with gas gauge or being low on gas.
The hybrid inverter / converter was the issue and it needed to be replaced. Luckily it has a 8-year warranty (5 more months to expiry) and so the dealership replaced it.
